On a short break during jury duty and you expect me to give you a short reply?

OK: If it's out on DVD it's the one of the Barenboim/Kupfer production at Bayreuth with Elming as Siegmund.

If not then it's the DVD from the Amsterdam production directed by Pierre Audi!

Good Luck!

I don't know about "best" but I like the Sawallisch on EMI. It's got a cool final scene where Bryn Terfel holds a flame in his hands to start the Magic Fire.

Boulez/Chéreau/Bayreuth

Probably the production that makes the most sense, even if it has an overt political message.

Recently seen on Youtube: Debora Polaski as Brünnhilde . Entrancing and just plain unforgettable.

As Sieglinde: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Ys7nWYFlBmI (here I have to admit that the focus is on Domingo's bronzen-voiced Siegmund)

I only have the Stuttgart DVD of Die Walkure and it is a very odd production but i would say enjoyable.  I have to say i enjoy all the parts to this Eurotrash series and would recommend Rheingold and Siegfried with Jon F West especially.

I have the Liceu DVDs of Rheingold and Gotterdammerung but do not have the other parts- anyone have these?  What are the Die Walkure and Siegfried like?  Is it worth purchasing them?

The Amsterdam Ring by Pierre Audi looks terrific but was quite expensive early on when released.  I would like a look at this.

Any news on the Danish Ring cycle they filmed which is due to be released?

The one I went for in the end was Boulez at Bayreuth in 1976.

Directed by Chereau featuring: Jones, Altmeyer, Schwarz, Hofmann, Salinen, McIntyre

Only one I could get delivered in time at a good price! Will watch it tonight and post thoughts later.
