I have never heard the name John Wick.
Not seen a single movie of Lynch

I hardly know any popular music. When Sam Cooke's "Wonderful world/Don't know much about history" was made popular again by a TV ad in 1986 I didn't realize that this song (that I found comparably nice) was over 25 years old (I only learned this years later).

However, I attended and passed 3 subsequent quarters of postgraduate level Advanced Quantum Mechanics and Quantum field theory at the University of Washington 1995-96. (As I later left Physics, it didn't profit me all that much but I certainly learned something...)  8)

I use Bandcamp to listen to vaporwave type of music.

Mulholland Drive is his best movie.

I should think that depends on the listener. It is an error to suppose that everyone's ears hear the same as mine.

I have seen the first "Mission impossible" and "Matrix" movies in the theatre. The latter was quite brilliant 25 years ago but I nevertheless never saw any of the sequels. I am generally skeptical about "franchises" and movies with sequels.
And I basically stopped going to the movies some time 2005-10, I don't even remember the last time I was in a movie theatre and I am not much interested in watching big theatre movies on small screen at home any more either.

Blue Velvet is my favorite of Lynch. :)

Quote from: 71 dB on January 26, 2025, 09:54:10 AMClearly it does something to you if you can't listen to it more than 10-15 seconds.  ;)

Not really. I use streaming service, where millions of songs and albums are just a click away. If something doesn't grab me, I can switch to something else in 10 or 15 seconds — quick and easy. It's so much simpler than the old process: opening the player, taking out the CD, finding the case, putting the disc back, placing the case on the shelf, considering whether it's worth the effort to start over, then doing it all in reverse order and hitting play :)

I know that my listening range isn't as wide as many others, as I know there are sounds that I cannot distinguish. Like when I go in the audiophile thread - it is all Greek to me. :P

Did I claim that my opinion is universal? I'm only speaking for myself.

I think you need a university degree to understand audiophile.

University degree helps a lot in debunking the marketing/snakeoil BS audiophiles say.

Do you think I have heard Taylor Swift on CD? I would have to actually like that music a lot to purchase CDs of her music! Or why would I listen to her music in streaming services when I can listen to something that actually interests me? I have heard her music on TV/radio etc.

That explains it. When it's on TV or radio, you can't just skip a song — even if you'd rather not keep listening.

You can't skip, but you can change the channel.  :D
