You do not state what your current set is, or maybe you did state it elsewhere and I missed it. In any event, I do not think Pinnock would be much of an upgrade.

I have two considerations for you. Savall and Britten.

Excellent choices.  Concerning the Britten, it's the only modern instrument Brandenburg set I have kept over the years.  That's quite a compliment considering how attached I am to period strings.

I'll annoint myself and settle this matter. ;D  Pinnock's Bach is wonderful - snap it up.

Yup, it's energetic, well played and I like the bright early digital sound (some don't), so thumbs up.

The only CD I've recieved in the mail thus far is the Mass in B Minor. I just started listening to it in my car. I seem to do the best listening in my car because of a lack of distraction. When I'm at home I'm too distracted being on the computer or doing other things. Anyways, I love it so far. I get excited by the many secrets to be unearthed in repeated listens. The past couple of weeks of listening to much Bach has been most rewarding. Right now I'm listening to a Schubert lieder collection sung by Elly Ameling. For some reason I love it as background.

I'm letting everyone know that I haven't forgotten about this thread. To date I have received only the B-minor Mass! I was displaced by the San Diego County fires for about a week. I imagine that this explains the lateness of the CDs arriving, as I haven't received mail for about a week.

However, I've listened to much Bach. I picked up this CD for 8$ at Borders and Books on a whim:

I listened to it four times straight through, and was spellbound. I'm finding myself developing more of an ear for counterpoint melody after listening to much Bach. I'm especially keen on the slower movements, as time seems to stand still for their duration.

I'm really getting antsy about my other two CDs arriving!

A fine performance of great music.  These concertos are among the most consistently satisfying music I know.  Glad you're enjoying them!
