I'm not trying to steal Manuel's idea but we do need a thread where we could post links to legal downloads available on the web + recordings from webcasts.

I'll be posting a tasty little tidbit as soon as it uploads (tomorrow?? :o): Beethoven's only oratorio Christ on the Mount of Olives op. 85. I recorded it earlier today - a webcast from the 11th Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival in Warsaw. Wojtek Drabowicz was actually scheduled to perform in this concert...

So, I'm just getting the space ready.

And here's a link to a similar thread on the old forum.

If you are looking for what classical music is on the web for free, I suggest that you look at this amazing site. It says that it mostly has late-romantic broadcasts but almost every classical music station on the web and every non-opera broadcast is represented.

Thanks for that link!

And here is my file:
[EDIT: link removed (file expired)] (87,06 Mb)

Ludwig van Beethoven, Christ on the Mount of Olives op. 85

Polish Radio Choir/Marek Kluza
Camerata Silesia (choir)/Anna Szostak
Polish Radio National Symphony Orchestra/Lawrence Foster
Simona Houda-Šaturová – soprano (Serafin), Fabrice Dalis – tenor (Jesus), Piotr Nowacki – bas (Peter)

The applause lasted for around 6 minutes! After about 4 minutes of it Lawrence Foster interrupted, and said a few words I have in another short clip (0,49 Mb - probably not worth the effort of downloading but I thought it was a nice touch). After that the two conductors he asked for did indeed appear on the stage. :)

Enjoy!

can you define "legal" music for me, like what can be uploaded and shared and what can't be shared. it's a little murky.

Well, I know the EU Polish copyright law - I'm not sure if it's the same all over the world. Here you are basically allowed to copy copyrighted stuff (except for computer software) only if it is stuff you couldn't buy even if you tried very hard. So, basically, I'd say: anything that has never been released on CD is more or less safe.

+ There are sites where the copyright owner explicitly allows his copyrighted material to be downloaded.

On December 8 - 1980 Gidon Kremer (33) and the NDR-Sinfonieorchester
performed Beethoven's Violin Concerto with the strange five minutes
lasting cadenza by Alfred Schnittke (Track 2) in the Musikhalle of
Hamburg. The conductor was Klaus Tennstedt.

Ok, here's a few for you...massive resources, especially for those of us on student budgets...

Virtuoso pianist Idil Biret, to her credit, puts up lots of old recordings on her website: http://www.idilbiret.net/Archive/musicarchive01.htm

The piano society, mostly devoted to (surprise, surprise) piano recordings:http://pianosociety.com/cms/ (this site also has plenty of scores)

The Jerusalem Music Centre, featuring up-and-coming Israeli musicians: http://www.jmc.co.il/listen.asp?mtype=1

And ClassicCat, with links to other websites, and a frightening number of composers in their database: http://www.classiccat.net/

Enjoi.

Just checked the Biret site. Wow, I didn't know she made a transcription of Brahms' third. Does anyone here have more info about that? Did she ever record like a whole set of them?

I was interested only in MfSPC, so got only the second one but can't seem to be able to extract files.
