In many video files I uploaded there's a small box with a C (crossed with a vertical line, as in alla breve)
on the upper right corner of the screen. Do you know what does it mean?

It's a classical TV channel in Europe: http://www.unitel.de/unitel_homepage/unitel/classica/index.htm

Does it still exist? A lot of the videos I have also were recorded from there. I so wish we had something like that in the states, classical concerts are hardly ever on TV here.

Could you finally listen to Rostropovich?

No, my girlfriend wanted to "talk."  ::)

By request from Manuel-

Jean Sibelius - The Symphonies
Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra
Esa-Pekka Salonen, conductor

With the Sibelius cycles coming up this fall, here is an upload of
the symphonies on video with Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Swedish Radio
Symphony Orchestra.

These were recorded over the period of 1987-1998, produced by Sveriges
Television and staged in the Berwaldhallen in a studio setting.

They have been broadcast on European arts channels, and it seems most
of these were digitally recorded from Italian TV. Description:

http://www.nbdtv.com/frames_main/product.asp?ProductID=1358

Solid performances, with lovely playing from the SRSO,
and an expansive, strong Kullervo, with Peter Mattei and Marianne Rørholm.

Symphonies 1-3, and 6, had problems in the audio which I tried my best to repair,
though the 1st had a couple of places where the sound drops out, and
the 6th was overrecorded.

1-3 use this Microsoft codec, from here if you didn't get it with
Windows:

Kullervo, 3rd mvmt:

with Vdownloader you can download video files from youtube, stage6 and similars.*

When the program is downloaded, you need to go to "settings" and make sure XVID is selected in the "AVI codec" options.

*I'm not sure if it will work on Macs.  ::)

But it does work on PCs. I downloaded various documentaries about Andsnes, Ogdon, Freire, Sultanov, Pires, Horszowski and Bernstein. The site has lots of videos ready to be caught with vdownloader (without to-join partitioned files or download restrictions).

What? I go away for 2 weeks and this changes into an all-video thread? $:)

Not sure if there are any other Włodzimierz Kotonski fans on GMG, except for me and André, but here is Kotonski's Violin Concerto (mp3@192):

(and for us as well, obviously ;D)

Mark

Right, I've uploaded Proms Nos. 1, 6, 7, 11 & 19 (so far), all of which can be downloaded from here.

Check this folder regularly over the next couple of months, as I still have Proms Nos. 33, 43, 44, 60, 62, 65, 66, 69 & 72 to upload. ;)

Enjoy.

I captured as many Proms concerts as I could, Bruce. Our PVR has only two tuners. Sometimes, both were occupied (and my wife wouldn't let me scrub something she wanted to record ;D), so I could only grab a certain number of concerts - 14 in all from this year's season. I can't yet verify the quality of what's left to prepare for upload, as there were occasional data breaks which might mar some performances (we live in a poor signal area :().
