How about this Ravel set with orchestral works by Martinont? I see this relatively cheap, 10 or 11 Euro for 3 CDs. A bargain?

I must say: I have the Munch for the Daphne and the Inbal for the rest. I had the Inbal also for the Daphne but was that disappointed that I broke the CD! Not that I wanted to break the CD, it simply happened, but I was realy disappointed.

So how about the Martinont? Do you think I would gain through these performances? Well I have the Debussy from Brilliant with Martinont and I like these performances. But how about the Dutoit? Is he better?

Best regards
Martin

Well I have the set on Brilliant with Inbal, and very content with it. :)

And you mean Jean Martinon on EMI, the seventies recordings right?
Well they are very idiomatic, very well done, but in my view not better then Inbal, just different...

Is that the one with Ciccolini's Ravel concerti? Man those must be the dullest recordings ever. Rest of the box is excellent though.

The Gemini Martinon reissue is newly remastered, but I think Abbado, Boulez, and Dutoit are all better Ravel than Martinon. Of these three, DG Trio's Abbado is the best buy.

Sorry the man is called Martinon not Martinont.

I hear positive things about the Martinon in a German forum, also I hear positive things about the Abbado. I like the Debussy of Martinon, I like Abbado. Both sets are cheap. So I will buy both, first the Martinon ( he is an a CD shop) later I will look for the Abbado.

Thank you for your advice.

I have owned an RCA LP of Matinon's Ravel and find it very, very good with the ending of the "Mother Goose Suite" being extraordinarily magical.
