Schumann's Scenes from Goethe's Faust

This has been on my to-get list for about 20 years and I've just acquired the Britten recording: I'm a little disapppointed, it seems to be in the vapidly subtle mode of Das Paradies und das Peri, though I've only heard it once as yet; it probably has some of Schumann's more intimate thinking buried in it- anyone know this effort?
