...to understand and as a consequence perhaps also the most intriguing. That is, you may not overtly like it but you also can let go or you may like it allot but you still don't understand it!

  For me it is definitely Kupfer's Der Fliegende Hollander.  I find his take on this Wagnerian opera most intriguing yet quite difficult to grasp  :-\.  There is a scene near the end of the opera where he's got all the cast members dressed in white suits beckoning to the crew of The Flying Dutchman's ship then suddenly the whole scene grows frantic then dies instantly and everyone disappears....Kupfer totally lost me there, I'm not quite sure what he is trying to represent in that scene.
