Inspired by the sterling work done by AnthonyAthletic, Peregrine and other members of this forum to bring to our attention the many incredibly cheap bargains they tirelessly hunt down on Amazon, eBay and elsewhere, I think it might be a good idea to have this thread for the posting of such goodies.

Any objections? Thought not. ;D

(PS: A Mod may decide to put this in the 'Buy, Swap & Sell' part of the forum, but personally, I think it'll just get forgotten about there ... and we don't want that, now do we? ;))

Good call. :)

Any Mods care to move this baby? ???

Here's one I think very highly of:

Bach Organ Works - Julia Brown/Amadis ($2.99).  Brown is the organist with four volumes of Buxtehude's organ music and two of Scheidemann's on Naxos.

Hey, great idea! I will be a regular reader.

For sake of reference, this list of CDs with superbargain list prices was posted on the old forum, and also includes Don's Bach recommendation:

BACH Organ Works / Julia Brown [Amadis]
BACH Keyboard Partitas 3, 4, and 5 / Wolf Harden [Amadis]
BEETHOVEN Piano Sonatas 8, 14, and 21 / Dubravka Tomsic [various/unknown]
BEETHOVEN Complete Piano Sonatas / Yves Nat [here]
BRUCKNER Symphony No. 3 / Hartmut Haenchen, Netherlands Philharmonic [LaserLight]
CASTELNUOVO-TEDESCO Guitar Concerti [Brilliant Classics]
CHOPIN Waltzes / Istvan Szekely [Amadis]
MAHLER Symphony No. 7 / Hartmut Haenchen, Netherlands Philharmonic [LaserLight]
MENDELSSOHN A Midsummer Night's Dream / Christian Pollack, Razumovsky Symphony Orch [Amadis]
RUBINSTEIN/RACHMANINOV: Piano Concerti (4 and 2, respectively) / various artists [Amadis]
TCHAIKOVSY Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty Suites / Andrew Mogrelia, Philharmonia Cassovia [Amadis]
TCHAIKOVSKY Piano Concerto No. 1 / Jeno Jando, Arpad Joo, Budapest Symphony [LaserLight]

And here you can find Larry Rinkel's favorite Beethoven Symphony No. 6, for $0.36 (I haven't ordered it yet but plan to).

If you are a fan of great piano playing, then you must own this 10 CD set--a ridiculous $18.98 from Arkiv:

If this is moved could we have separate download and physical threads? I, for one, have no interests in the download side.

Well, I don't want to prescribe what is recommended or the format. It was moved, but at Mark's request and I cannot see a reason for it to be moved again.

A great idea for a thread, I will have to get sleuthing.

Cheers,

;D

Whilst I congratulate you on your purchase, I do question anyone buying Asparagus at this time of the year, for that means it's travelling a long way. Asparagus depreciates quite noticeably in quality after it is picked and would urge anyone to keep their asparagus eating to a seasonal window (May-June, when you'll find me eating loads of the stuff!), to truly appreciate this vegetable in all it's glory.

No super-duper bargain thread could possibly go without mention of the Barshai Shostakovich Symphonies set on Brilliant Classics.  ;)

Or for that matter 90% of Brilliants output......

Grazioso

It's almost silly to have a separate bargain thread these days, when so many discs are dirt cheap--well, except Hyperion's :) Thanks to Brilliant, box-set reissues, Amazon Marketplace sellers, etc., it's hard not to find eye-popping bargains. E.g., I recently bought a 22-disc set of Stravinsky conducting his own works for about $30 and a 60-disc set of Beethoven for about $25, both new.

But, I'll join in nonetheless :)

Here's a series of great bargains: Arkiv's 25-CD Naxos gift sets. They were recently on sale for $75 and are still relatively inexpensive. One drawback to these sets: a very skimpy booklet and flimsy packaging.
