Sacre blue! The government gets to tell French businesses when they can have a clearance sale?

Not any more, those days are over, when government is telling them when to hold clearance sales. Its a european law now.

All of Europe!? Wow.

Thanks for finding the link, Olivier, I guess we can all wait until the 11th to begin planning our raids!

Well, that's a nice thing to remember to throw back at the next Republican who tells me the Democrats are trying to turn the US into a European country.

Amazing, I never knew of this restriction. It seems bad enough that they will only register birth names that appear on their list of acceptable French first names for the newborn.

Official data from the website of the French Ministry of Finance :

http://www.economie.gouv.fr/dgccrf/consommation/Pratiques-commerciales/Soldes

The Winter sales last for a period of 5 weeks and starts at 8am on the 2nd wednesday of January, except if this falls after the 12th of Month, in which case it will start on the 1st wednesday.
Defined by Article D. 310-15-2 of the Trade Code

These dates also apply to distance selling, including Internet-based business, wherever county the company is registered in

Especially in the midst of a recession it seems quite odd that retailers would be expected to struggle rather than off-load dated stock to help cashflow. I imagine there are ways around this restriction.

It seems the traders are entitled, upon application, to 1 x 2 weeks or 2 x 1 week Additional Sales period over the year, as long as these don't finish less than 30 days from the beginning of either the summer or winter official sale period.

simples.

;D

Does anyone remember how many items you have to order to get free shipping? :)

(Which is the only way to make any order sense....considering their outrageous shipping costs  ::))

If you spend more than 50 euros I think

Papy Oli

The 55 euros carriage paid seems to apply for France only.

For other countries, it seems to be based on number of articles :

Quotepour 1 à 3 articles : 9,90 Euros (64,94 FF)
pour 4 à 7 articles : 18,30 Euros (120,04 FF)
pour 8 à 15 articles : 28,20 Euros (184,98 FF)
au-delà de 15 articles : port offert par Abeille Musique.

And apart from that, I browsed through the catalogue, especially Chandos, Hyperion, Hungaraton, and Supraphon. The prices are far higher as 2 years ago, when there real sales. Too expensive now! Will go there further in their sale, they tend to lower the prices after 4 or 5 days. Nothing for me now I am afraid. If I have missed incredible bargains, please let me know. ::)

I would tend to agree. There are some decent deals here, but many could be found elsewhere at similar prices (via sale). Though, I did notice the Liszt box would be roughly $150 for a US buyer who pays no shipping. That is pretty decent. Opera Rara isn't too bad at about $14-15 per disc, and are usually $20-30 retail. But there is not a whole lot that screams out 'I need it at that price' type thing.

Agreed! And what a disappointment! I was always looking forward to the Abeille Sale, and it made me high, when there, and ordering all those fantastic bargains, but these times are over me thinks. Well there must be enough people that even buy at these prices. :o

Well, if some endorsement is needed, this is a one-time-in-life opportunity. Magnificent instruments, great playing, outstanding sound quality.  :)
