The cheap downloads thread doesn't really seem to get used, so I'll put this here:

Current £1.38 for the whole album on amazon.co.uk, or 69p for each concerto.  I was looking for the Valen; don't know the Nordheim, but can't argue at that price.

Edit: Not sure why I'm getting "Image unavailable"; the disc is Violin concertos by Nordheim and Valen, played by Arve Tellefsen.

It doesn't work with MP3 album ASIN.

Ah, thank you - simple but obvious.  And anyone searching for this download shouldn't enter too many search terms, since Amazon's spelling is shocking - "Arene Nordheim" and "Conserto", for example.

There's also this Lohengrin for download for $2.97. Apparently each of the acts = 1 track.

Hmm, 6 CDs for $15?

I have the original releases of the CD of the violin works (the two sonatas, plus the two late solo violin pieces) and the wind quintet + chamber miscellany disc. Both of them I can give an enthusiastic two thumbs up to.

And, yes:  When I first chucked this box into my Amazon cart, the price was $28.82, which I thought fair. But the pre-order price guarantee is particularly sweet in this case! Didn't believe my eyes at first.

Next Supraphon Dvorak box set (symphonic works) at Amazon for $7.99 - 8 CDs

[asin]B0077DDWEE[/asin]

Got the email that my copy shipped.  But at almost $11 for eight CDs, I'm not sure I got a good bargain, especially in light of the price drop.

If memory serves, I did get the Suitner Dvorak cycle for less.

It is interesting to see how the price has evolved http://pricenoia.com/dvorak-symphonic-works

I tend to count an average of $1 per disc as the bargain threshold, although that is very utilitarian and assumes a standard disc price, ceteris paribus, and doesn't take account of variables such as quality of notes, scarcity, quality of recording and so on.  What about others?  Do you have a rule of thumb or judge each on its merits?

Bargain threshold per disc:

New recording: $12
Reissue: $7
Box-set: $4

Not quite as you put it there. :) The sellers with the four lowest prices ship only within the States (and maybe to its off-shore territories as well), but not to any place outside. Still, $42 is cheaper than most other places, but not quite like the $8, was it, a few months ago. ;D

Thumbs down on the Requiem 6 cd box from Arion. Would have been good by 1965 standards as far as the performance goes, but with so much high quality early music these days it's not up to snuff.

A nice selection of Tippett with Andrew Davis and the BBC SO for 99c +S/H

I found the performances to be pretty good but nowhere near as good as Marriner or Hickox, but for 99c, it would be hard to argue with that. 8) I own the Apex reissue of this recording. I think I paid about $3 for it.
