Interesting theory/ description on the posible causes for this glitch.  :)
But in this case I don't believe for a second that DG has run out of copies to supply the increased demand generated by this glitch....

It going to cost Amazon to fulfill these orders....the question is: will they suck it up or try to cop out?
In a similar incident in relation to the "Real Chopin" box set, in which they accidentally linked  the description of the box set with the ASIN number of one of single disc volumes, they first claimed "unavailability", then changed the description to the single disc and then announced that "the item" was miraculously available again. But of course when ordered,  you wouldn't get the box set anymore... 8)

Q

Q, I think you must have misread. You think I said the glitch caused a surge in demand?

I bought the Strauss DG box in 2015 from amazon.it. I paid it 45.90 € which seemed a good price to me. I had it delivered in one day.

Same here ... but delivery usually takes a week.

Perthaps not "Super SDCB", but the 86 CD Charles Munch "Complete RCA Album Collection" box is to be had for 99.99 € on German amazon. I haven't seen it cheaper anywhere IIRC.

I've decided to pass, as I have all of Munch's Berlioz, and a good chunk of his Debussy, and am not really interested in much of that box's contents. Fuerthemore, I have to keep shelf space avaialble for the Cluytens set that's coming out next month  .. ;).

Understood.  The Munch Berlioz was practically obligatory  8)

Yes as good a deal as I have seen. Another conductor who is never less than great at all times and fortunately he mostly had great orchestras at his disposal.

I would buy if Sgt. Pepper wasn't available right now

PerfectWagnerite

I am really really tempted by the big Cluytens box. Looking at the contents there are some really good stuff there. And it looks like each CD is pretty generously filled. But I am not sure whether I am committing 90 bucks at this point (still absurdly cheap even at this price).

Looking for the Sgt. Pepper but found this

Well worth it.

Just in case, JPC has it for 100€ as well ... I think I'll jump for it and buy there (hoping for a less heavy strike by the custom forces) > 'cept I already have it on the shelves, that is  :o (glad the missus isn't reading this  ;D )

You mean 28€ ?

Anyway the stuff there that is good I already have (about 10cd or so). Otherwise it is a fine deal.

Looks legit. Do you have to pay sales tax?
lOOKING at the contents again there seems to be a lot of duplicates though. How many Mother Goose do you need? And if you have the complete Daphnis do you need a suite?

UpdateL Ok I ordered it from the above link. Free shipping and no sales tax, that will save me about $20 from the Amazon price.

That goes with the territory when you get one of this "artist's complete recordings" boxes. With the EMI Karajan, for example, and I'm speaking about the earlier incarnation, you got no fewer than three Tchaikovsky Fourths. When a musician's career develops along with sound technology, you tend to get a new recording every time there's an innovation, so it's the same music once more, first in the 40s, then in the 50s with mono, in the 60s with stereo, and, if we speak about a long-lived conductor or instrumentalist, in the 80s with digital.

And if they left out any of the duplicates, then some reviewers would howl that they chose the wrong one.

That, and the fact that many collectors have caught the 'completitis' bug. When buying a 'complete set', they want 100%, not 95%. You pays your money, you don't want someone to make choices for you... ;D

Bull Moose is a New England-based retailer with stores in a number of cities (Manchester, NH; Portland, ME). I've bought stuff in their stores and online. They are a fine company, a fine bunch of people, and quite worthy of your spending $$.

JPC de added many new titles to all three budget price lines, with many interesting titles.

The first is the 2,99 euros section.

The second is the 5,99 euros section.

Sort by Rang, you will start with the newest cd's added.

Lotsa people should buy that Kuhnau cantatas for soprano disc for € 2,99, methinks!
