The individual issues of the Gouvy symphonies should not be frowned on, either !

I'm tempted by the Spohr symphonies. I have some of his chamber music and a violin concerto, but I know nothing of his symphonies  :(.

Not as good as the chamber music. But if you are tempted I would grab a least a couple.

The Spohr Symphonies are as good as his chamber music.  Well written compositions.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,

are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

I ordered the 2 CD set of the New Sgt Pepper (and it sounds amazing) and they sent me the whole de-luxe Box at the 2 Cd set price. Now, that I call a bargain!

From amazon.co.uk:

Hello,

We're writing to let you know that the following items have been unexpectedly delayed:

Various Artists "Richard Strauss - Complete Operas (DG box set)"
    Estimated arrival date: June 12 2017 - June 23 2017

Silly question, but no-one has received theirs yet?  Mine is now due June 19-29.  Rather like Tristam Shandy, who took a year to write each day of his life, each week my Strauss box gets two weeks later...

I keep getting notifications too, that they´re trying to obtain the item for me. The money hasn´t been taken from my account.
So far, I´m patient, since I ordered two, only planning to keep one of them for myself, but I can live without them if the whole thing is cancelled.

Got it for a bit less than that 5 years ago. A great set with a 200+ page booklet, and the libretti for the operas & sacred works on a CD-ROM (there are 'only' 29 CD's of music) and a ton of wonderful performances.

Oddly it has been at a similar price for years. It's a fantastic box, all sorts of great recordings, and an interesting selection of stuff, with some warhorses and some not quite so common stuff.

Maybe some bargains for you?

Although they are not complete, the Budapest 3CD set of Beethoven SQ is on its way to Grenoble.  This is a purely sentimental purchase as these recording were my first encounter with Beethoven SQs.

Jo498

I think the 3 Budapest discs are not from any complete cycle but from the recordings they made in the 1940s. There were 2x2 discs on that Cardboard Columbia Masterworks series, containing opp.18,1/4/6, 29, 59/3, 95, 127, 131, 132, 135 and the Diapason threefer is a subset of them.

Harry, a big shout out & thanks for the JPC bargain links.  I have had a good splurge over the last month of super CDs.  Skrowaczewski does Brahms, Beethoven, Schumann, Bruckner, Berlioz & Chopin.  Many great vocal bargains & 7 or 8 of the Diapason's.

I am just spinning Bohm and the Mozart Requiem tonight.  Great sound for 1956!!!

Not forgetting a few CPO discs too.

Big thanks  8)
