The Vivarte Box set. 80 USD on cduniverse....:

Just come across these boards and this brilliant thread in particular.

This box (I think it is the same one) can be had from jpc for €35

http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/Meisterwerke-des-Barock-60CD-Sonderedition/hnum/9383995

Can't be that one, it would be too much of a stretch even for Sony to call Beethoven a Baroque Master... :D

I don't see any mention of Beethoven in the list of contents.

Or is this what passes for humour on these boards?

Welcome to GMG, hafod!  Hope you'll take the time to introduce yourself on the Introductions board http://www.good-music-guide.com/community/index.php/board,2.0.html

One picture speaks a thousand words:

You're talking about a different box set.  :)

It will be slightly cheaper on Amazon which is appealing because CD Universe charges for shipping and handling are extremely high these days (when you order from abroad):

No, all of my humor is genuine humor. :)

The list of disks posted by Erato contains a few disks by Beethoven, as well as Haydn, Mozart, Schubert etc.. Thus my seizure of the likelihood of his set and your set not being one. ;)

Yeah, that's a beauty there. I have a bunch of those already, but the temptation to duplicate my holdings might just overcome... :)

I would bet, it's an error. If not, it would be a historical bargain.  :)

I vote Scarpia.

It's available again for EUR 32. It's very weird.

Good news about this two boxes... :P

Orpheus  ;)

Thanks for the heads up on this box. I already had the Dowland and Bach but for that price it was worth duplicating for the other three CDs. I've listened to the Kapsberger so far. He can get a bad rap these days but it is sensitively played, a real treat.

It is also available through UK Amazon from the same marketseller at a £ equivalent and almost free postage. I was tempted, but all those acidic altos and breathy boy sopranos....no.

7 USD for shipping to Norway (from cduniverse) for this box is not what I call excessive, and I think the box is listed at USD 105 at amazon.com. You work out what is the better deal.

Edit: I see amazon listing it at USD 76 - they obviously have had a change of heart. And no - it's not he same box as before, though a handful of discs are available in the Secret Labyrinth as well as the DHM 50 anniversary box.

Edit2: What is really weird is that amazon.com lists it as an import (påredumably from eurpe); yet amazon.de charges 120 Euro for it - around double the price at amazon.com.

I looked, saw it listed as "new" and put it in my cart.  Then it disappeared from my cart.  I went back and saw it listed as "used" and put it in my cart again.  Then I figured it was too good to resist and ordered it.  By then, it had appeared again in new, even though my order had gone through.  At that point I had no faith that the seller had any idea what he or she was doing and canceled the order.  It seems to be gone now, so I guess someone else grabbed it up or was withdrawn again.  I have no regrets, I have no desire to deal with a questionable vendor from across an ocean.

In any case, even at 30 Euro, it was questionable for me, the though of those arias with juvenile sopranos makes me cringe.

Yes, we across-the-ocean guys are very unreliable!

:D

I have ordered from many overseas sites, but the antics of that particular seller did not inspire confidence.   :)

You're right about CD Universe. During a long time CD Universe was my favorite store in the USA, but then they began to charge some crazy sh. & h. costs and I opted for other stores. But now the airmail shipping to Chile is marked at $10.99 which is very good. I think I will order that set there. Thanks!
