Or from the KINGS!

wait... we weren't any good for most of the 43 years.

Better advise to Harry, who was never a football fan -- stick with music, even if the music is Dittersdorf!

Thank you Paul, sound advice. I am more into ballet and figure skating as a matter of fact! :o ;D

A gorgeus box for a gorgeus price...  8)

Amazing bargain - just bought mine, and many thanks for alerting us.

And to continue the footy thread... anyone who thinks their club has fallen on hard times should try supporting Coventry City :(
(The only consolation being that, now we're a little club, the inevitable exit from the League Cup at the hands of a little club (Dagenham & Redbridge in this case) won't be quite so painful...)

Che Guevara - Coventry City last won the FA Cup in what year?

No, I'm not surprised you didn't get this, it was in fact a trick question . . . .

Which shows that the timeless Python has dated in one respect, since Coventry have actually won the cup since that sketch was made.  The fair city is doubly celebrating this year - 50 years of the cathedral and 25 since the cup win (although whether 25 years since winning anything is a matter for celebration is another question).

Great deal. Ordered. Thanks for the heads up.

I held off because I thought I already had much of it, but examination reveals that I have less than I thought--about ten CDs worth, all told out of the 29 music CDs, and want at least two items included there whole (the Handel oratorio and the Gluck opera).   But this price is less than what I paid for the Jacob Nozze di Figaro which is included and which all by itself makes this set worthwhile if you don't already have it.

So I just pulled the trigger.

Yeah, I was swayed by the opera argument, too. I have Jacobs' Così, which is very good.

From amazon.com, re. the Neumann set ordered in April:

QuoteHello,

Due to a lack of availability, we will not be able to obtain the following item(s) from your order:

Antonin Dvorak, et al "Dvorak: Symphonic Works"

We've canceled the item(s) and apologize for the inconvenience. We must also apologize for the length of time it has taken us to reach this conclusion.

I had the Rowicki set for $19 in my cart when this one popped up for $6. Seemed a no-brainer to order this one instead. After a month of waiting, I ordered Rowicki, then up to $24. The Rowicki seems likely to become my favorite set, v Kubelik & Kertesz. Can't compare it with Newmann's set, though.  ;)

Our dear Rob started a conducting career? Seems like a wise move. Pity about the research though.

I got that notice, too. But there is that offer of the complete somphonies from Tim on GMG which is almost as good. I think it is still available. Check it out!

Having just received mine (postage cost Harmonia Mundi £5.50 - they certainly know how to lose money) I'm now even more impressed - beautifully produced, well-filled CDs (several over 80' - the first one, for example, French Harpsichord Music runs to 81'16), nice box (although a bit too big for its contents, requiring a 3cm cardboard filler to stop things rattling about), and the booklet...  There's a review on Amazon from someone called lucas "jump in the river" which is highly critical of this, complaining of the small fonts and shiny paper, so I'd expected something like in the "Works of Stravinsky" box, little more than a list of contents, but no - it's a big, heavy job, with a complete track- and performer-listings and (in English) 70 pages of notes.  Perhaps lucas had paid more than £15 for his (although he mentions the low price in his review), but I wouldn't want to let him put anyone off.  As far as the music goes, so far I've only heard Couperin's 25th Ordre, which Rousset plays beautifully.  Looking forward to lots more.

Re:Dvorak Symphonic Works box set saga.

Yesterday I also received the cancelation notification.

Today, the set is on hand at amazon for $61.50.

Talk about deceptive practises.  Everyone that had an order should send them an email demanding that their order be honored and filled.

My Dvorak box shipped last Friday. I should have it tomorrow.
