Quote from: Baklavaboy on March 06, 2014, 02:03:47 AMOK, here's a weird 'un. This one went oop a long time ago. I actually bought one of these for about $270 and then sold it (unopened) on Ebay for about double that (minus various fees).  Anyway, apparently it wasn't a "limited edition" cuz it's back. I wonder if the price will later dip waaaay down like the Rubinstein? (seems the graphic won't come through--it's the 103 disc Jascha Heiffetz box)

The $300ish Heifetz boxes are being made in China. They're like the Beatles Stereo Box, most of them you see are bootlegs.

Naxos might distribute Sony, but they don't own it. Naive CDs are also labeled Naxos of America, on Amazon, increasingly.

A fun site to poke around, BTW, is Naxos Licensing. You can see which Naxos-distributed albums and labels have been on things like Breaking Bad, House of Cards, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and The Walking Dead.

Well it has trashed hundreds of listings on Amazon, maybe more. I wrote them. They are listing stuff I received as pre ordered! And no-one can buy that stuff right now.

Perhaps something is screwed up on Amazon?  Won't be the first time, although probably not on such a scale.

I checked one CD I'm interested it--Andsnes's second CD of Beethoven concertos, which is due out next week.  Amazon's listing still shows it as being released on 11 March, and the label is given as Sony.

My Amazon.co.uk email was mistakenly labeled spam:

Various "Living Stereo Collection - Volume 2"

You could be right, but I'm doubtful because it is being sold at Amazon.de   I don't think Amazon would piss off a top client by selling knockoffs (unlike, say, a Hong Kong vender selling on Ebay).  If the box isn't labeled "limited edition" (which most are), there is no reason why the producer couldn't run another batch (such as Mercury seems to have done with their first box--unless that, too, is a Chinese knockoff that some Amazon outlets don't mind selling...).

And I just unwrapped the Verdi box--finally arrived!

Verdi!   How do you make room for all your boxes? Perhaps there is a parallel universe of shelves around our sound systems that could expand our shelving capacity?

LOL

I was thinking just the same, maybe Baklava should take some photos and pop them up on this thread so we can see his wall of goodies!!

We used to have a thread something similar years ago about 'Your listening room', quite a few persons posted their delights.  IIRC Harry had wall to wall cd storage packed with dreamable stuff!!  Sarge had a listening room with everything filed his way  :D, all ready, and all at hand.

*Bait for Baklavaboy*

Sony is re-releasing the box of Baroque Masterworks that initially came out back in 2008 or so.  It is a great deal for 60 very good recordings (emphasis on Kuijken, Bruggen, Leoonhardt etc). I have personally enjoyed this collection quite a bit over the last six years.

It is currently available for pre-order at Amazon.de for about 50 Euros and due out on March 21.    8) >:D :)
Strange to see these "limited editions" coming back again. It seems like Sony is revisiting a number of their older megaboxes for a new release cycle?

Nothing impressive, I'm afraid. I have my cds in card catalogue style, so they don't take up much room.  This is a very wide angle lens, so it actually make look larger than it is. (you can "recalibrate" by remembering these are all CDs, not LPs!

I wondered who bought that Yo-Yo Ma box. Now we know who.

I got that puppy for $120.  Tons of Ax, Isaac Stern, etc., and wonderful chamber stuff.  For the original $500...no way, but for $1.30 a disc--a steal!

I actually bought it too (for a little more than Baklavaboy paid) for a friend of mine who absolutely loved it.

I spy the Lumieres, RCA Volume I and what looks like a good old Archiv box on the top right of piccy one  8)

Those chairs look ace for musical meditation  :)

Just received this from the USA for £22 delivered.

[asin]B000NA2PD2[/asin]
When it got to the UK....

It came with a Customs & Excise bill for £6 & a Royal Mail handling charge for £8

Got stung for the £14 import duty!!!

Can't complain as its £50 here in the UK.  Overall it cost me £36, but nearly nabbed it for £22

Been collared only twice for Import Duty in the last 10 years, so I have had a good run.

Your lucky, I have to store as many as over 20.000 CD'S. luckily I have a dedicated room for this, and they are in plastic sleeves.

Actually, all the boxes up top are empty! I find if the discs are the boxes, they never get played--too much of a pain to dig them out.

20K CDs in plastic sleeves. Wow!  One a day for a life span...

Yes that is a great worry to me, not enough years to listen to them again
