Quote from: hafod on October 11, 2014, 03:36:54 AMThere is a third Ansermet box - The Great European Tradition (31 discs).

All those Ansermet boxes arrive a little too late for those of us who patiently collected the Australian "Eloquence" issues in which the Swiss conductor's legacy was systematically re-released for the first time. I can only derive a small confort from the fact that these boxes are a product of Universal Italy and that some error of judgement must have been made in them that will cast a pall over the whole purchase (as witness the "complete" Berlioz-Sir Colin Davis box, that wantonly omits the first two movements of "Tristia")

Haven't played much of the Ansermet French box yet (and none of the Russian), but this is cool news!

As for Backhaus, I really need the Beethoven sonatas, I guess.

EDIT:

Here's a working link for the Brautigam Beethoven - most tempting indeed!
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00LJ3EUGC/

The Hogwood Mozart probably does not come with the extensive booklet of the more expensive version. Matters to me as I don't know sh*t about all this and having some background info is highly welcome.
Thank you.  I ordered the Brautigam just now.
I should note that when I first looked this afternoon the page said 14 sets were in stock.  When I ordered now the figure was down to 10,  which after my order there are nine left.
Re Hogwood Mozart
I got mine a few years back from Amazon Italy.  There were extensive liner notes, but all in Italian.   And of course I don't speak Italian....

Acquiring the ability to read a little Italian cannot hurt the lover of classical music and opera... and it helps with liner notes! It's not too hard if you know some Spanish or had Latin at school.

Ah, right ... wasn't sure if it was back to your regular 3-4 pages in several languages or if it was the extensive ones but not in translation (I don't speak Italian either, reading is kind of possible, but well ...) - so I made it a point to get the "proper" edition (cost around 50€ I think, price goes up and down and down and up, as so often).

The Brautigam, I assume, contains Vols. 1-9 of his complete Beethoven piano works series? So if you want more, you can just go with Vols. 10, 11 etc.?

AmUK has just priced the new Ansermet box (The Great European Tradition) at £218!! Compare AmIt at €58.
What's the matter with these people?

The algorithm often starts high in the US ($246 - lol) and the UK to then substantially drop. The release date is earlier in Italy. However, both the previous Ansermet boxes have been more expensive in the UK/US relative to Italy.  Perhaps it being a Decca-Italy product matters?

Brautigam...yes, unless they box those separately.
BTW, you 'll see what else I bought instead of Callas in the Purchases thread over the last two days. :D

Ha! Don't know Freire yet ... have his Brahms concertos w/Chailly around, but nothing else.

Anyway, will dig out the Bolet Liszt box today, I guess. This one's quite a bargain a amDE right now:

It's been a while since I bought it, but I think it was never less than this and sometimes much more (in the 50-60€ range).

That same Mahler set (minus the dvd?), plus complete Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann and Schubert cycles, just for 46 GBP at Amazon UK:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00I0IL3FA/ref=s9_simh_gw_p15_d0_i3?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=10QJC88YWYYG4S5G2Z5C&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=455344027&pf_rd_i=468294

I doubt whether this set is in the SACD format, though...

The amazing DHM Baroque Opera box is now 48 pounds at British Amazon.  A steal at this price, IMO.

That's, I think, what was the pre-order price ... no-brainer at that price, I guess (though I've not yet started listening to mine).

It wouls shame your descendants if you did resist.

Yeah, at these prices, that is hardly hyperbolic. The DHM (an HM) stuff is so uniformly excellent.

If only this one would come back at a sane price:
