It's true, we can't even remember the days the dollar was 'expensive'. Until recently, prices at Amazon.com looked very attractive in comparison with Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.fr, Amazon.de. However, because of often unexpected import taxes added in recent years, I didn't dare to order anything from the States anymore. Aren't you bothered by similar inconveniences with orders from Europe?  :-X

No import taxes are in place. In contrast the VAT is subtracted so the cost for an item is lower than listed! The shipping from the UK or Germany are nominal fees. It seems like it easier to order from Europe than the other way around?

Got this set for $2 back when the Amazon MP seller, BlowItOutOfHere (aka i-Deals), had a pricing glitch in their system. I was frankly quite surprised they honored any of my orders. Looking back, I'm ashamed over my behavior over the whole fiasco. It was a mistake, and I knew this, but greed didn't take a holiday. I should have been much more humble and, more importantly, understanding over this costly error on their part.

Honestly, I haven't heard one note from this set and I don't really even know why I bought it since most of the repertoire doesn't interest me.

Look here. The rare ones are the Lyrinx discs.

Thanks.  The SACD discs look interesting since I just bought a Blu-Ray player that supports SACD.   :)

Well, the CD I wanted is 455 euros;D

Yeah, I looked around for that one, too! Unfortunately I couldn't find one in my price range. But one strange thing I ran into is this odd looking AmazonFr "pre-order" for December reissue. But I don't see it on any of the other Amazons!!

I want to jump for joy but I'm not sure what to make of it all. Is it legit? Any of you insiders know anything? ;D

If you're looking to give your SACD player a workout try this disc below. I don't have an SACD player but even in regular stereo it's in the top handful of greatest sounding piano recordings I've heard. And at the moment it's actually available on the US Amazon - well the Marketplace that is - new for relatively cheap:

Good morning to all.

The label MDG is priced down to 9,99 on JPC de, many good titles, so be quick about it.

Speaking of JPC.de, it's just TWO euros for this excellent HIP disc of Carl Stamitz' cello concertos. No. 2 is one of my favorite cello concertos of all time - I strongly recommend this!

EDIT: The entire Phoenix Edition label appears to be 1-3 euros per CD.

I have it, and can confirm the excellence.

I saw the Stamitz (there is another disc with a clarinet concerto) but was wary becaus that 1960s/70s HIP ensemble (Cappella coloniensis) is not always up to it (and Stamitz also composed some fairly trite stuff) but at 1.99... I probably have to try.

Are there special recs for the jpc MDG offers? I can maybe buy 3-5. I want to get one Vol. of the Burgmüller quartets. Also maybe the Klughardt chamber music, Foerster symphonies (3+4), Romberg quartets, Rheinberger nonet, Reinecke Cello sonatas... I cannot afford all of them. Is anyone familiar with Glazunov's string quartets? I do not really expect this composer to excel at this genre but apparently he composed 4 discs worth?!?

Most of the MDG cd's are worth your money artistically and in terms of music. The Stamitz by Cappella Coloniensis is good enough to warrant the price.
The Glazunov SQ are excellent, good music, excellent performances. This composer excels in most what he does. Everybody is telling that he is a second rate composer, so all believe this.
But take it from me, Glazunov belongs firmly at the top with all his fellow Russian composers.
