We had a couple of discussion on the old board about his operas:

Good news: Wiener Staatsoper has announced their new season and they are bringing back the Salzburg production of Die Tote Stadt in May (with Angela Denoke and Klaus Florian Vogt). I guess I have to start planning my trip to Vienna.  0:)

I might as well announce the reissue of Leinsdorf's rendition of Die tote Stadt here, as well. The old forum discussions are well worth perusing.

Sometimes you just scratch your head as to why a masterpiece like Das Wunder Der Heliane doesn't get performed. Sure the plot is a mess but there are plenty of operas that get performed with even worse plots. The music is a surefire knockout and I tend to think that any decent performance will bring the house down.

Okay, okay, you've got me convinced! :D Sadly, I have not yet heard any of Korngold's operas, but I love his Violin Concerto and Symphony in F sharp.  I see I'm going to have to remedy that deficiency if I can ever find copies in the Denver library system...
