As noted in the Listening and Opera threads, I watched the full opera on DVD Christmas Day (a Frankfurt production on Naxos, filmed Dec 2021/Jan 2022), and rather liked it.
The performance is available as a CD, but I think it's definitely an opera to be seen, not just heard.

Apparently there are only two other recordings, both Soviet, one from 1948, the other c.1990.
