Sleet and or freezing rain can be brutal.  Power outages and road conditions....

For me, it was a good day to remain indoors, and the upshot is mostly a driveway crusted with glazed snow which I'm going to need to be careful walking on.

We're looking at more seasonal-but -significant snow over the weekend.

Quote from: Kalevala on February 07, 2025, 01:32:13 PMOh, boy!  Does it just wash off to the rivers/sea since it's been so dry?  And that's a lot too!

2.5" is not that much for a winter storm in these parts (actually I read it was two storms, back-to-back). The ground soaked it up pretty readily. We're still way behind on rain, but I think the one coming in is supposed to bring more water.

The forecast is 5-11" of new snow. We shall see. I'll be back home from The Lilypad before it begins in earnest, I believe.

I was afraid that the ground would have been so dry that it would just have run off.

Not looking forward to shoveling tomorrow; hope that it isn't too bad.  I know that we need the moisture however.  I'll do my best to do it in stages too.

In the past few days, it has been in the 70s here. Plenty of sunshine today, just perfect.

Finished with my shoveling (and sanding).  I did (I'd like to say anyway) the majority of it though I was very happy that a friend came by to help with the rest of it.  He's a good egg.  :)

I finished my shoveling early, too. We got about 5 inches of snow, and I have a rather long sloping driveway, but I finished faster than my neighbors with snow blowers. By the time they dragged them out and got them started, I was already halfway done. Thankfully, it was soft, fluffy snow. All is now clear to get out to a friend's house to watch the Superbowl.

We might get us some more snow Wednesday night, though probably not much.

Watched some of the footage of flooding rains in the previously fire-struck areas of SoCal.  :'(  You just can't win!

Best wishes to all of those living there,

We had 10 cms /4" of very wet, heavy snow night before last into yesterday, on top of 15 cms over the weekend (6") and several similar snowstorms before that, and it's starting to look like Buffalo, NY around here. About 35 cm is expected over the weekend (about 14"). I fear to imagine what the town is going to look like after that!

The region won, we are not headed into severe drought, as was feared. Here it was a bit underwhelming compared to what was predicted, about 2" (5cm) total mostly Thursday. There was a wind event in Oxnard that damaged mobile homes (possibly a small tornado). The burn area for the Mountain Fire (November) did not report any signifiant slides or debris flows. It seemed like a pretty typical winter rainstorm, complicated by the recent fires.

Yes, it will. What's particularly difficult lately is, with so much melting and refreezing, lots of black ice has developed on streets, sidewalks, and driveways. New snow on top of it makes things especially dangerous.
