QuoteDoes this stretch of cold weather have you curious about the *all-time* min temperature records in South Florida? Here they are:

Miami: 27°F, February 3rd, 1917
Fort Lauderdale: 28°F, January 20th, 1977
West Palm Beach: 24°F, December 29th, 1894
Naples: 26°F, January 12th, 1982

The 1977 date btw is the day it snowed in South Florida (snow flurries that barely reached the ground). There was at least one report of snow flurries in Naples early this morning, which is directly west of me on the Gulf Coast side.

I haven't heard any reports of what the agricultural damage might be. Since almost all of the citrus growing areas were in the freeze zone, I expect there will be some. Tonight will be just as cold, slightly warmer Wednesday, and then another cold front for the weekend (but not nearly as cold as this one).
And two graphics, one from NWS and one from a local meteorologist comparing today's temperatures in Alaska and Miami
To be clear, the record which the NWS graphic talks about is for today's date only.

After several 40+ days here in Melbourne I am slightly jealous of anyone in freezing cold temperatures!!! At least the weather is fairly mild this week.

Brrr!  Hope that you have some clothes on the warmer side and some decent heating?

I did stumble across some information the other day about how to deal with freezing temps and citrus produce (about watering when it's warm, etc.).  Hoping that these temps don't hit your growers hard.

Still very cold here; it could be worse though.  I feel for a friend of mine.  They heat by wood and stick close to home in weather like this (when not working).  Recently, they had issues with their water supply stopping.  Don't know yet whether their pump died (They have a well.) or what the cause is yet.  Possibly weather related?  Will find out.

I have lived in an area that had summer temps in the 80's and I think low 90's but it was dry, so it was pretty bearable.  Also in another area that sometimes had temps around 103, but it was very humid (so I did my best to stay indoors with a/c during the worst of the temps).

How do you stay cool, Maticevska?  And, by the way, welcome to the forum!  :)
