It's an almost-2 minute snippet from what sounds like a concerto:

http://www.steinway.de/instrumente/steinway-sons/crown-jewels.html

It plays in the background of this particular page on the Steinway German web site.

Thanks !

John, I am sorry you have not received a reply yet to your question about the identity of the piece of background music. Evidently nobody knows it, but it might make you feel good to know that over thirty people read it. You are not being ignored!  :)

Thanks for the kind words. There appears to be a wealth of wisdom on this board, so I've no doubt that someone will recognize the piece. I've been lurking here for quite a while, but this was my first post. Cheers to everyone.

well, see, if it's composed by a "Classical" composer, then eventually sombody will come up with the answer. HOWEVER, if this piece is composed by an unknown contemporary composer(a lot of them are nowadays), and this piece is exclusively composed for this website (which is likely), then I doubt that anyone will ever figure it out.

I suspect that it's not specially commissioned for Steinway. The music stops (and then repeats) in a way that definitely suggests there is more to the piece, which would be unlikely if the piece were commissioned for the web. If the piece is one by a "modern" composer, then, granted, there will be more difficulty in identifying it. It's a nice piece, though, in my opinion.

I did send an email to Steinway, asking about the title of the music. Perhaps they'll respond. We'll see.

John, I'm willing to wager this was either commissioned or licensed from a production/film music company. It's total wrong for any of the conventionally understood periods of classical music other than what we simply call 'Contemporary'. My guess is that it was written in the last ten years, if that.
