Although Heino sang Volksmusik too, he's more associated. at least in my mind, with Schlager, a style of German pop music I detest. In fact,, I've never met a single German who would admit to liking it and I rarely see anyone perusing the Schlager section of music shops. I believe Schlager accounts for around 5% of total CD sales in Germany; a niche product, although you hear it it a lot on television, shows like this youtube video.
