Since Miklos Rozsa wrote it for him - "For Jascha Heifetz" - he certainly championed it.  The RCA LP was version was not cut.
When, a few months before his death, Rachmaninov lamented that he no longer had the "strength and fire" to compose, friends reminded him of the Symphonic Dances, so charged with fire and strength. "Yes," he admitted. "I don't know how that happened. That was probably my last flicker."

Am currently enjoying this CD. The Bartok-like Viola Concerto was the last concert music written by the composer (1979). It is a darkly lyrical work which would probably also appeal to admirers of Bloch.

Amen! 0:)  I cannot yet find it on Amazon, but I see that Tadlow (and their prices are definitely NOT a "tad low") ;) offers a good number of scores for c. 22 pounds.

Jerry Goldsmith fans: check these out!

Oh my goodness! Please don't tempt me   ???

I have several Ben Hur soundtracks - think I'll have to content myself with this one for the time being. Seriously, thanks for the info about the new recording:

The version I have is remastered on two CDs with a glossy booklet - I should be satisfied with that.

I love the Ben-Hur soundtrack as well as his earthy, dramatic Cello Concerto.

If you win the lotto, there's also the 5CD complete score with album recordings. ;-)

You are wicked ( >:D) but I forgive you ( 0:))

I've just had to rush upstairs in a panic to check which version I have. It's a very lavish production, in a rectangular, not square, pack featuring the original soundtrack spread over two CDs (88 tracks) and including a 50 page booklet. The new release does look very tempting I must say but I will have to resist it (for now) although I can already feel my resolve weakening.   ???

Yes, he was a fine composer 'Double Indemnity' was a great score as well - very dark as appropriate for that brilliant movie.

My nerve went and I've ordered it (your fault). I'm justifying it to myself in that my wife can give it to me as a Christmas present. Having said that she hates giving me 'more CDs'.

El CID happened years ago! And it's amazing.

There's a cheaper 2 CD version of that 3 CD set that had wider distribution:
