Quote from: Mandryka on March 31, 2025, 01:05:50 PMAh, I was wondering whether you could understand the interview with Szymanowski.

There's a large Polish community in London. When they speak English their accent is varies a lot, presumably reflecting regional differences in Polish.
Before a Prom concert in London I would invariably meet my brother/daughter at Daquise the great Polish Restaurant near South Kensington station.

Yes I know it well. When it was a family business it was one of the great characterful London restaurants.

It's a good article. To be honest I won't miss it because I think it lost its soul after the refurbishment, which also came with a change of ownership. When I was at Imperial I would regularly have lunch there -- borscht and potato pancakes with sour cream, a bottle of Polish Budweiser and a piece of strudel and coffee. Then stagger back to college to do some more mathematical logic, drunken lambda calculus. We would have student parties (all sorts of strange vodkas) in the basement.
