Sorry I was not able to embed it it seems...

Try to listen to this brilliant piece before or after listening to Notation VII. A perfect match.

Good interview with Boulez here. Among other things confirming his interest in counterpoint and history of music.

In Tombeau a multitude of lines and indivudual chamber size textures overlap and converse with one another.

For those in the Toronto area, New Music Concerts are performing sur Incises on Monday night at the Betty Oliphant Theatre on Jarvis St.

I'll certainly be going.

That sounds very exciting! I have no idea when the last the last time Boulez was ever performed in Australia.....

You're gonna love the tribute that Lady Ga-Ga is going to perform!

Livre pour quatour (yes, always having problems with "ou-uo) :)

Pulled this out in the midst of my Babbitt-a-thon. Well, look here, here is all of Babbitt in 1949!! As I was listening to Babbitt's SQ4, I was wondering who-who-who... WHERE have I heard this before? No one up to Babbitt appears to be as dense with notes as Babbitt, but then I remembered the 'Livre', and how dense it was, and, lo!, yes, Boulez seems to have already reached Babbitt's 70s density 20 years earlier. I'd love to know what Boulez and Babbitt thought of each other.

I vividly remember an audio interview years back where Boulez was asked what he thought of Babbitt, his response .. "too academic". He always maintained that his favorite American composer was Elliott Carter. Other than that, he was by & large .. from a musical standpoint, largely negative of all other American composers.

You know what I just realized? Why is there no alliterative title? Who started this thread? Bruce! What is wrong with you?!?!

You could have picked Boulez's Brothel.

Probably the real reason why his productivity diminished from the mid-70s onward was he was too busy swimming in so much groupie pussy. See profile pic.  ;)

Or Boulez's Boule, "boule" being French for a "ball," as well as a round loaf of bread.

Brilliant. I didn't even make that connection!

In your pic, as someone on here insightfully pointed out before (probably a professional Medium by day) .. there are no scores in that brief case, just, let's say .. "fun toys". And check out that grin on his face. Master indeed. Mick Jagger, eat your heart out.
