Don't know if there are other Fripp-heads out there in GMG . . . but while I had long enjoyed this site as a reading resource, it is only yesterday that I availed myself of a purchase.  My ears have longed for the League of Gentlemen album, and better still, I bought a five-date tour of the band in England. Mighty tasty!

GD, I was not crazy about the FIREFLY show when I watched it a few months ago, but that T-shirt design is very cool.

Here is me replacing lost/stolen music that I've missed terribly:

I hope you enjoy it.  If you do, even half as much I have, it will be money well spent.

Those were superb years for Davis, along with his first quartet with Philly Joe Jones.

Autechre: EXAI (Warp, 2cd)

I have not kept up with this band in 10 years, but every time I catch up to whatever they've been releasing, it's been pretty cool, sometimes crazy good.  A little trepidatious I am, buying this one without hearing it.  We'll see!

Exai sounds dirty and restless. Totally dirrefent than "Oversteps" (2010) that sound beautiful and calm. Autechre is always on top of their game (even with "Quaristice" (2005) that is their weaker moment). There is no need to hear before buying.  ;)
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

Decided my next encounter with The Brothers Karamazov should be in this new translation, which is said to restore the humor that was largely lost in previous translations.

Love that one.

Yes, Karl. One of my all time Monk  favorites on that particular set is "Off Minor".

I ordered this to upgrade my CD+DVD version of The Prodigy's "Invaders Must Die" to this 2CD+DVD version released later in 2009.

I was not aware that Autechre's early project "Lego Feet" has been released on CD. Well, now it's ordered.  ;)

Imagine my surprise while reading the closing credits to Die Hard With a Vengeance — and you may well say, "What are you viewing the closing credits of Die Hard With a Vengeance for?," but stay a while — and I saw as one of the music credits "Off Minor" . . . so now I shall need to watch again, only to be attentive to when the Monk tune appears  8)

FWIW, the cinephile who runs the Mission McTiernan blog has listed DHWAV as one of her Top 10 of All Time, iirc....and though I don't understand that (I'm sure she's written about it, I only discovered her blogs a couple weeks ago and haven't yet tucked in), she seems to have excellent and wide-ranging taste.  Live without shame, Karlhenning!

I'm sorry was so incredibly late thanking you for your Autechre note, 71db.  Thanks for it!  I still haven't listened it yet, argh.   :-[

Got this the other day:

Steeleye Span: THE LARK IN THE MORNING - THE EARLY YEARS (Castle UK, 2cd)
(their first three albums)

And also another version by them, which is actually iic the one on one of those early studio albums, with rock drums and a faster tempo...I need to track down the source of the first one, which I like better.

News to me that RVW had a hand in bringing this song into modern consciousness:
Quote from: Damned Wikipedia"Blacksmith" (Roud 816) is a traditional English folk song, also known as "A Blacksmith Courted Me". The song was noted down by Ralph Vaughan Williams in 1909 from a Mrs Powell. On that occasion it was sung to the tune "Monk's Gate", better known as the tune of "To be a pilgrim", the hymn by John Bunyan. The same tune is sometimes used for the song "Our Captain Cried". It has been recorded many times. There are versions by The Critics Group, Shirley Collins, Steeleye Span on the albums Hark! The Village Wait and Please to See the King, Planxty on their first album Planxty, Barbara Dickson on the album Do Right Woman, Phil Cooper on the album "Pretty Susan", Scatter the Mud on the album "In the Mood", Loreena McKennitt on Elemental, Martin Simpson and Kathy & Carol and Eddi Reader on Mirmama. Linda Ronstadt gives an a cappella rendition on the 1990 compilation album Rubáiyát. Barry Dransfield recorded an unusual instrumental version of the tune. Jah Wobble recorded a version of the song on his 1996 album "English Roots Music".

EDIT:
So I was hasty...looks like the two recordings are from their first two albums, 1970 and 1971 (but in reverse order above, afaik).  Pretty sure both of these are included in the comp I bought.

An excerpt from the original liner notes:
QuoteCollected in 1909 by Ralph Vaughan Williams from a Mrs. Powell in Herefordshire. Maddy collected this version from a number of texts in the Folk Song Journals. This Southern English song, like the better known Twanky-Dillo, uses the "blacksmith" as an epitome of virility with the hammer filling the bill as a phallic symbol [ed: !!!!]. A close variant of this tune is used to the John Bunyan hymn, To Be a Pilgrim.

Karl, Thanks for that heads up; maybe I'll watch this movie just to hear that classic Monk tune. I'm grateful you are so attentive!
