McCain's apparently been a bad boy, so is Rev./Gov. Huckabee now the frontrunner? :-\

Whatever.

The fact that politicians are tantamount to crooks is a a well known phenomenon.

Hiding the salami is criminal? ;D

Brian

None of that was what I'd call "new news," and in any case some of McCain's comments about the Keating business struck me as truly pained, courageous remarks.

What you have to consider is that this is an election in which four leading candidates - Hillary Clinton, Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, and Barack Obama - were listed among the ten most corrupt politicians of 2007. So who are we to vote for?

Oh, yes, Judicial Watch, a very objective institution indeed ("conservative, non-partisan" by its own description) rehashing that very vague connection between Rezko and Obama and generally painting with a very broad brush. Yeah, them pols all the same.  ::)

Well to be fair, Judicial Watch are suing Bush and Cheney and working to unearth all the nasty details of Halliburton.

I will give them credit for that.

So, you mean, you give them credit for being "objective"?

Don

I have no idea what will be the end result of this not-new business about McCain and lobbyists.  But as it now stands, the accusations have little meat to them.

No, I think that list is comparing apples and oranges. There are some very minor transgressions and unproven assertions listed much higher than far more egregious cases bordering (or in some cases crossing) the line towards the criminal. Ranking Conyers five spots abouve Libby is just ridiculous.

I don't know about "we", but I intend to vote for Obama (assuming he's the Democratic candidate).  If it's Clinton, I'm voting for McCain.

Thanks. I missed that. In any case, those two don't even play in the same league. There are a ton of politicians this side of Libby who should be named before we even get to Conyers or Obama (their Obama thing is really rather tenuous at best in any case).

McCain has this hubristic streak that gets him in trouble sometimes. He thinks he can consort with lobbyists without getting dirty and now he's paying the price. Otherwise there's not much to this rather old story.

So the Mac had an amorous affair?
Big deal. in fact thats a  good thing, shows he's a has passion.
In europe , politicians past affairs, or current affairs even make the news. Its an accepted fact of the real world.
America is so silly at times. Love has become *the great sin*
And so what if he favored the women's interests, . who here wouldn't do  favors for the girl friend? 8)

Errm.. you are familiar with the concept of conflict of interests, right? Whether you're buying your access to power through money or sexual favors, it's called corruption.

ahh so who in this country , up high in any office or profession, is exempt from corruption?
The majority is guilty of some corruption /bad deeds/poor calls, along the way.
Now of course politicians have to pay the biggest price, they lose more points.

I'd rather see someone who gave his girlfriend some favors in the prez seat thana   knucklehead like Bush or a  absolute air head like Obama.
IOW give me a  real human being capable of making a  mistake at least once in his life over and above a  moron like Bush or a  vacuum brain like Obama.

That "air head/vaccum brain" has been fighting most consistently for ordinary folk and the underprivileged and is an extremely intelligent problem solver. Here's a little note from a professor of mine, who was Obama's classmate in law school.

America didn't invent the concept of love as a great sin - that was religion.

well if you look at the majority of government leaders and *the consensus makers*, many were christian, so their values get shoved into the forefront.
America has always been   christian land, but that is now changing.  Many youths have some ideas  about religion/christianity, but hardly any practice a  faith. And i really can'y balme them for seeking answers outside  their parents religious ideas.
back to Mac.
i still believe its more important to consider the mans intellect and problem solving ability and much less looking into his personal love life. EVEN IF HE DID FAVOR HIS GIRLFRIEND. BIG DEAL.
Look at what Washington has done over the past decades, spending their grandchildrens money like its a  free credit card.
besides Mayor Ray nagin of New orleans, skipped town during Katrina and went off to stay in his Dallas mansion for months post Katrina.
And he's the guy who said "New Orleans will be once againa   chocolate city" and worse things. Yet the New Orleans voters, in spite of his low morals of sucha   speech, was easily re-elected.

look at what Gov Schwarznegger did to Southern california during The Great Wild Fires
He was informed on Friday of the impending disaster in the making, but kept his weekend guilt conscience free, and only began serious fire fighting efforts on Tuesday.
Stating *the winds were too high and made it dangerous for the planes*.
How ethical was this governing decision?
Of course we all know how the northern cali's hate their southern brothers.

Its wrong to attack Mac for his private life, even if he did give his girlfriend government favors.
Who here wouldn;t do the same?
