What do you sound like?

Mark

A couple of months ago, I was intrigued to hear the voice of Herbert von Karajan in an interview that was included on a Gramophone cover CD. Such a slight tone for such a commanding musical figure. Not at all what I expected.

This led me to think about how I imagine members here to sound. Longears has, for me, a voice not dissimilar to Heath Ledger's character in 'Brokeback Mountain'. Knight I hear as quite well-spoken, with the hint of a soft, Scottish accent. And Don has, in my ears, a deep, 'straight-faced' voice.

I'm sure that others have wondered how each of us sounds, so I've started this thread for anyone who's willing to 'go public' with their voice. I've restricted my clip to a 4-second MP3 file of me simply saying, 'Hello, GMG. This is Mark'. But of course, you can say whatever you like.

Look forward to hearing from you all. :)

Now, you see, you sound 'lighter' than I pictured. I thought you'd be a bit more 'rounded' in your tone. Fuller, somehow.

And I hate that about my voice. As a kid I would talk alot and it would drive my mom crazy hearing my voice!

You sound like I expected..English! say more! haha I feel like every English person could be a narrator.

I couldn't narrate. Put me in front of a microphone and before very long, I begin to stammer everso slightly through nerves. I also speak far too quickly in conversation - something inherited from my maternal grandmother, who talks twenty to the dozen. Only folk like me know what she's saying! :D

That is so funny, Mark, because I was thinking of starting a thread just like this yesterday!

I don't think its uncommon to not like your own voice (I've known many people to say that about their own voice, especially after hearing a recording of themselves) - I dunno why we tend to be so self-critical because usually the way others perceive us (in this instance, our voice) generally is different from our own.

I don't like the sound of my voice either-- I have a tendency to stutter or my brain sort of locks up if I become too aware of what I'm doing.    :-[

I have what people call a radio voice. I do some radio, not unlike Dr. Frazier Crane. But I am of course less snobish and much more down to earth and friendlier.

My voice sounds lower than what people usually expect.

Me too, when I am speaking English (though I am Dutch). I have been listening to BBC Radio 4 for almost 25 years now, and the consequences are audible... In Dutch I sound far less posh!

Yes same with me. I lived for years in London, had a house in the suburb Inderwick then, and moved in circles where India, was said in a colonial tone.

Right, Michel. Think of that every time you post here.
