The 1st verdict of a 4 mio $ compensation, paid to the parents, is only the first one in an ongoing series of decisions and possible punishments to be made by the Alex Jones court.

Jones is calling it a 'victory' though (since a bigger amount was demanded from the prosecutor), is still running his show, and asks everyone to donate more money to him.

Rumours about the phone content, that will apparently be handed over to the Capitol coup attempt committee, include 'intimate messages' to Roger Stone, child pornography (that Jones says was malware), etc. Jones did guiding appearances and speeches to the crowd during the Capitol coup attempt, and he claimed to be in contact with Trump. The Trump entourage generally deleted their phone content from those days.

It's an interesting case, also since the blunder of Jones' lawyer Reynal - handing out very embarrassing material to Jones' antagonists, and then doing nothing during the 10 days frame for any protesting, while Jones commits perjury in the light of what was later seen of that phone content - has in itself produced a lot of conspiracy theories: was Reynal really that incompetent? Or did he do it on purpose to somehow declare the whole case a mistrial? Or was he influenced by people who wanted Jones to stop? Or did Reynal secretly hate Jones?

So far, most would indicate incompetence. Apparently Reynal will also face some questioning from a lawyer's organization.

     "Recession" news:

U.S. payrolls increased by 528,000 in July, far higher than expectations.

I adhere to normalcy on recessions definitions. History says a recession is best defined in hindsight. People can disagree on whether one has started or not when indicators point both ways. They point both ways.

I also wonder what it means for an economy to recess while employment is high and growing. Job loss is the reason to care about recessions, nothing else matters nearly as much.

How a Phoenix record store owner set the audiophile world on fire

MoFi Records claimed its expensive reissues were purely analog reproductions. It had been deceiving its customer base for years.

The audiophool ideology says this is impossible.

It's just elite consumerism. I'm elite, look at what I bought.

A good AVR gets you there for high end sound, and gives you home theater, too. What's good? I'd say 20+ pounds. Many budget receivers come in around 18 pounds. That will do for sensitive speakers if you don't play too loud. For demanding speakers and sufficient power to play loud I recommend a 20-22 pounder. As far as brands go, that's not a concern. I'd look at features. When in doubt get an Onkyo that meets your feature criteria. Or just get the Onkyo TX-NR6100 and stop with the bitchin'.

I don't listen very loud so my old Sony is adequate for multipurpose use. If I wanted to upgrade I'd get an Onkyo, though it might be one level below the 6100.

Reminds me of the time hd tracks was caught selling MOST OF THEIR CATALOG at 16 bit 44.1 kHz pcm upscaled to hd audio (and selling it at that price).  How embarrassing for the golden ear audiophiles that were pretending they could hear the difference. ;D

The US has a labor shortage, and that's a factor in the supply inflation. The solution is a bigger, better "border crisis".

To be clear, we can continue to hate the people we employ to wash dishes, pick vegetables and clean restrooms. Give them jobs, that's all. We can hate and chew gum, can't we?

Now that the Inflation Reduction Act has cleared the Senate, let's see what some pros think the impact on inflation will look like.  From the University of Pennsylvania: INFLATION REDUCTION ACT: PRELIMINARY ESTIMATES OF BUDGETARY AND MACROECONOMIC EFFECTS

Quote from: Jon Huntley and John RiccoThe impact on inflation is statistically indistinguishable from zero.

Can't believe that they would have even considered the prospect of trying to open up shop there!
