Antivaxxer idiocy is the same, the world over.

Vaccinations can be OK if they are not overloaded when given at the same time, also if mercury compounds are not used.

Blake's 7 star Jacqueline Pearce dies, aged 74.

'Blake's 7 star Jacqueline Pearce has died at the age of 74 shortly after being diagnosed with lung cancer, her friend John Ainsworth has said.

The actress, best known for playing Supreme Commander Servalan in the popular BBC science fiction series, died at her home in Lancashire.

Ainsworth told the Press Association: "She was outrageous, she was very honest and very straightforward, which didn't always go down very well, but you knew where you were with her.

"She liked a glass of champagne and liked everyone to have a good time with her, and of course she was a brilliant actress and everyone who worked with her remembered her very fondly."

Pearce was born in Woking, Surrey in 1943 and had a difficult childhood after her mother left the family when she was 16 months old – leaving her living between her father's house and that of a foster family. She trained at the stage school RADA and Lee Strasberg's Actor's Studio in Los Angeles, before embarking on her acting career.'

I remember her most in Blake's 7 - a series with similar production values to Doctor Who of that era - and also The Avengers, another show that was somehow cool, camp and crap all at the same time.

Not the first time they aired Wagner, strange...

Neither thing matters, the mercury compound that used to be used in some childhood vaccines until it was removed in the early 2000s and is still used in flu vaccines, is harmless (at least no credible evidence that it caused any harm) and their is no such thing as 'vaccine overload' that is just a weaselly term used by anti-vaxers

I like to see what others believe should be posted in this thread. That's why I'm bumping it.

So, check this out - https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/aug/08/glasgow-park-attack-overlee-clarkston-two-teenagers-injured

Here's my take; yeah, anecdotal at best, biased at worst.

For the past month or so I've been hanging out of with a nurse employed in the a&e department of a city hospital. Contrary to the report linked, her account - based for the most part on clinical assessment of wounds - went like this -
16-17 year old school pupils arranged to meet in the picnic area of a local park in order to celebrate exam results. As far as I know, no 'bevvy' (alcohol) was involved. But due to them posting the meet up arrangements on Twitter, their celebrations became public knowledge.
Cut to the chase: an adult (!) drove a gang of other 16-17 year olds to the park. They arrived, they exited the van, they attacked the celebrating teens with - according to the official report by Police Scotland - "Knives and swords".
I've had a colourful life. I was a nasty little shit of a street thug, but here's the thing. I never carried a blade. Still, I'm shocked, because here's what my nurse friend related to me. Apparently the cops ferried the first few victims in and to aid the doctors displayed the weapons - saws. Tenon saws. Two of the victims had wounds courtesy of those saws.
I still interact a lot of children/teenagers every day. They increasingly seem to be immature, soft, self-entitled little shits. But regardless, they don't deserve to have the weight of walking through life bearing the marks of having their face sliced apart.
"You overestimate my power of attraction," he told her. "No, I don't," she replied sharply, "and neither do you".

More than 40 buildings in a town north of Boston, Massachusetts have exploded due to anomaly in natural gas service.

I've never heard of such a thing happening. Freak failure, or cyber-attack on the gas utility?

It is now about 100 buildings spread over at least 3 towns.
It seems one gas line broke in a bad spot.

The issue doesn't seem to be a broken gas line. It appears the gas main had excessive pressure, and when appliances in people's houses (ovens, water heaters, furnaces) were exposed to the excess pressure they leaked gas, which could be ignited by any electrical spark or open flame.

Probably it was caused by human error or equipment failure of some kind, but it strikes me a just the sort of thing that an intruder could produce by infiltrating the gas company's computer network and tampering with the control systems.

Karl Henning

I learnt of this piecemeal, first by a fire engine passing me on Route 114 as I made my way to choir rehearsal, and second by our new soprano sending word that she would be unable to make the rehearsal because the school where she teaches was one of the buildings.
