This one is for  Florestan https://blogs.spectator.co.uk/2019/11/why-is-there-more-intellectual-freedom-in-bucharest-than-cambridge/

Interesting. I certainly don't feel free to speak about many subjects in public nowadays and with the amount of equality, diversity and inclusivity rules at work I hardly talk to anyone. In fact I'm no doubt in violation of the inclusivity regulations by chatting a lot to a couple of team members on Skype but not the others :(.

Few recognise we are again living in an age of puritanism. Meanwhile we dance on the deck of the Titanic (excuse the mixed metaphors) ignoring all the elephants in the room whilst the only planet we have is being destroyed. We are a very, very peculiar species.

I do feel bad about being part of the human race and hope some form of life survives in the long run :(.

Well if it's nuclear war takes us out the experts tell us the most likely survivors will be cockroaches. Somehow strikes me as poetic justice.

Stuff like this has been going on for years. Kids prosecuted as child pornographers for sexting for example.

In 1982, Exxon accurately predicted global warming

Exxon has a pet think tank devoted to oil company liberty, the Cato Institute. In the chart above you see 3 warming predictions, the dotted ones are Cato published, the red line is from internal research conducted by Cato funder Exxon, and the blue line is NASA observations of what has happened.

U.S. think tank shuts down prominent center that challenged climate science

Michaels has spent years attacking climate modeling, which he claims ran hot, despite evidence from NASA that contradicted his claims and demonstrated that models were largely accurate. He has also portrayed academic researchers in climate-related fields as beholden to funding that incentivizes them to produce alarming research. The Cato Institute has received millions of dollars from the Koch network, the Mercer Family Foundation, Exxon Mobil Corp. and other foundations that oppose regulations.

If Michaels thinks consensus supporting researchers are producing a distorted view because they are funded by alarmists, how is it that the consensus got it right and Cato got it so wrong? How did Exxon produce such an accurate prediction while its propaganda arm was so far off?

I'll tell you how. Exxon needed to know how its operations would be affected by global warming. It needed accuracy, so while it could propagandize about how we don't know about this and that, for its own use it had to know as much as it could, so it did, and the accuracy of the Exxon projections is very impressive.

We should all aspire to not know about important science the way Exxon did.

     Dept Of Alarmist Ice

Greenland's ice losses have septupled and are now in line with its highest sea-level scenario, scientists say

The recent Greenland losses, the experts suggest, match a more dire sea-level projection outlined by the United Nations' chief climate science body, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Under that high-end scenario, Greenland could contribute about 16 centimeters, or around half a foot, to ocean levels by 2100.

"What that means is that really, the midrange scenario becomes what was previously the upper scenario, and they will have to invent a new upper scenario, because one currently doesn't exist," Shepherd said.

Do I view this news with alarm? If I do, it's what the news says more than a predisposition to be alarmed by science news. Science can deliver good news, too, from my technophile-ic standpoint. The Green ultras have bought into the anti-growth argument, that the solutions to problems come with lowered ability to produce them. This is anti-historical to say the least. The Martians aren't going to give us the means to geo-engineer the climate on the required scale. They don't even like us that much. No, we'll have to face up to the fact that climate action will be undertaken by the largest economic expansion in history. Woe, therefore, is us?

More thuggery https://www.foxnews.com/media/no-safe-spaces-masked-men-police

from the link:

"After all of the previews and ads were over and the movie was just starting, two thugs sporting hoodies, masks, sunglasses and carrying huge duffel bags ran, not walked, up the aisle and sat at the back of the theater right behind us. They looked like bank robbers, home invasion criminals... they were trying to act scary," a moviegoer named Vanessa, who asked for her last name not be used, told Fox News."

"When the manager went in to check on them they had removed all intimidating items. They knew what they were doing," Vanessa said."

Yeah, that's some serious thuggery. Oh, the "safe spaces" irony.

It would also be interesting to discuss this documentary supposedly about free speech...but you've blocked reading my posts because we had a disagreement over a political issue.

oh, the irony

I can't help suspecting this was a stunt perpertrated by the filmmakers, both to illustrate their claim and get some free advertising

Is that a stipulation that if it was real it was intimidation?
Have you any evidence to back up your suspicion?

No, it isn't. Thugs have been known to watch documentaries for normal reasons.  Maybe Antifa wanted to know what Prager had to say about it. You may have not noticed, but the theater management explicitly and the police implicitly did not think it was intimidating. Only two of the audience members.

Naturally I have no evidence, but I am aware of the mendacity that infuses most right wing media, including Prager, so I feel justified in my suspicion.

It doesn't make sense as a hoax unless it's intimidation they are faking. Faking curiosity doesn't get headlines. Or sympathy.

Just as a matter of logic, might the theater management have a motive for denying that there are thugs intimidating their audiences?

Antifa wanted to "get into character" to watch the film?

How on earth does "sitting in the row behind me" count as "intimidation"??

Get thee to a safe space.

It makes sense if you make a film that you want to get the Fox News ecosystem to talk about. The ecosystem that thinks Project Veritas is impartial investigative journalism.
I have read many Prager columns. He is not above distorting facts and ideas to push his own ideas.
