     How "Starship Troopers" Aligns with Our Moment of American Defeat

     Why should a film have to align with moments for people and film critics to understand what it's about? I can think of reasons to dislike Verhoeven films that don't involve being stupid about them.

That's quite the amount of space. Still waiting for my GPU... Covid delays, maybe.

Looks like it's working 100% with the new graphics card.

But some things remain totally incomprehensible to me. The problem with the old one was the fan noise when I put it back in (didn't have that issue before I took it out like a week before, why would that happen suddenly?). The new GPU has no fan noise.

At first, when I installed the new GPU, hardware-wise it looked good (only one connection and displayed a helpful white light when it was connected properly, and turned red when the connection was out). But after booting, no display in both monitors. Screw around a bit, try it again with exact same connections, and one of my monitors works, but in the wrong resolution. So I use Windows for a bit and then let it sleep for a while so the screens just go black. Then I wake up my PC and suddenly both screens are on, at the desired resolution, for no comprehensible reason at all.

My suspicion is that me removing the lock screen might be causing unpredictable and bizarre issues?

Also, the new CMOS battery is still holding the correct system date (which was initially the ONLY problem I was having), so that's good.

     My Radeon 550 is a mid-level card that suits me since I don't play demanding games. It also has a hardware video encoder built in that's faster than the one Intel has in its CPUs. Qualitatively they are about the same, which is not as good as software encoding, though I compensate for that by trading off some of the speed by bumping up the quality settings. If I wanted to be able to do real time software encoding (24 fps for a movie) I'd need a gargantuan CPU to do it. With my Radeon I can double that and keep quality with the CPU I have (i7 8700).

     "Let's not call it" fascism is so close to the "OK to call it" kind that the only reason to distinguish them is to make knowledge from history harder to assimilate. You aren't supposed to understand Trump according to how he behaves but instead treat his lies and fantasies as though they were a superior kind of truth. But truly, this is as much a part of the playbook as the bullying, scapegoating and undermining the fantasies and lies justify.

Continuing the discussion of computer issues, even though it was over 

I have to say hurray for the scientific method... was getting audio dropouts and playback issues in Cubase and was wondering why. I had the issue before, but it was due to not yet inserting license keys into plugins. And if you research, people have these issues from a million different types of reasons.

But... decided to do a test. I thought maybe it was just due to lack of ram. I have exactly the recommended amount by Steinberg (8 GB), but that is all relative and somewhat meaningless.

In a new project, I added one track, playback & record = good. Okay, copy that track 10 times and try, and.... there's the issues! Delete them one by one, leaving 4 or 5, and the issue is gone.

(Of course, I could also view ram usage, but I don't think it's helpful- is 80% usage enough to cause the issues or not? who knows... but in retrospect, looks like the answer is yes)

So gonna have to order more ram... 32 gb should be more than enough.  0:)

Well a small project in Cubase is taking up like 3 GB of RAM, and idling is also taking up 3 GB, so if I had a massive project that is 9 GB of RAM and also wanted to run a bunch of Chrome tabs, etc. it would just get too close for comfort.

So yeah, I could get by with 16 GB, but my goal is to not enough have to worry about it at all... ordered the 32 GB of RAM, will get Monday. Also had to enable something called XMP in the BIOS if you are going for 32 gb, and not every motherboard even has that feature.
