The first part of your statement is debatable.  The second is not: it is pure bullshit.

In my opinion, this news is important; but . . . maybe no one hears about it, since all the attention is naturally on the Olympics and the Mittster.

My first thought on reading this yesterday is that it will prove to have been an early experiment in hacking the grid as an act of sabotage/war. We aren't far down the list of probable targets for next time.  :-\

I think it's safe to say that anything that affects over 600 million people can be considered important.  I don't know whether it's terrorism/war or simply faulty, decaying, out-of-date infrastructure to blame (I'd lean toward this), but in either case, this serves as a dramatic reminder that things like basic infrastructure should be taken into account and properly funded.  I certainly hope it gets sorted out as soon as practicable.

I see Gore Vidal has popped his Versace clogs. The Times, (London), provided especially splenetic comment; suggesting that he had outlived public taste for his clotted fiction and basically consigning him into celeb cold storage. Are USers sorry to notice that he has at last slipped off the chat show couch?

I didn't know he had been recently alive until the news of his death. I didn't care for his fiction but enjoyed listening to him talk.

Yes, it is sometimes pleasant to encounter the smell of fresh creosote being applied. Listening to him being interviewed was something of a guilty pleasure. Today's Times has the formal obit which is more balanced. I think it explained that his original first name was Gene. He changed it by age 14. Gene Vidal, even more of a hairdresses's name than the one he chose.

Omnivorous on several levels: he certainly made it a point of honour to bite the hands that fed.

Gore would have appreciated this anti-obit.

They seem to have missed this zinger which a friend of mine quoted on to Facebook. It is with reference to Ronald Regan. 'He is not clear about the difference between Medici and Gucci. He knows Nancy wears one of them.'
