Now, he'll need a prostitute more than ever, because from the expression on her face, I don't think he'll be getting any from his wife any time soon.

I'm not surprised, who knows where he's been! :D

I suspect he'll have to forgo the $5000 per hour variety for the $50 per hour variety.

Paul, the facts of his involvement in anti-prostitution measures were within the hyperlinks virtually at the start of this topic. That was why I was so puzzled that you went on about the religious angle, claiming people were bigoted. His main 'crime' is that of having double standards. Upholding the law in public and breaking it privately.

Mike

:-[
Embrassingly I missed that part.
I caught a  nightly radio talk show on the car radio, last caller of the show mentioned  Spitzer with this double standard.
So i know what i wrote on this topic was not in line with the background of the man. I mean how many gov's do you know involved in anti prostitution  meansures?
So i was shocked when I heard that part of this senario on the radio.
yes he really got himself ina   bind, rock and a  very hard place.
I still hold nothing against the man.
Blame it on my Nietzscheian thought patterns.
I see much greater contridictions in our society than this sensationalism surrounding one man's life.
es i know he's governor, and should be held to higher standards.
but remember i live in the state of louisiana.

You ought to look at past Gov Edwin Edwards lifestyle, and a  certain state representaive in southwest LA. This state representaive had millions of state monies allocated to fund HIS PERSONAL lake theme park , owned and operated by his family.

Long time Gov Edwards had his *play house* in south texas for decades while in office, not to mention his lovers he supported  in Baton rouge.

Nevada has no laws against prostitution. So not sure why Spitzer chose to go the route prosecuting prostitution activity.
The old *insistence implies resistence* comes to mind.
Many preachers , just before their fall, speak out of  their guilty conscience.

Embrassingly, Paul routinely misses facts which bear on any number of his many pronouncements.

Nevada has no laws against prostitution.

QuoteBrothel prostitution is legal in some areas of the state.  However, all forms of street prostitution are illegal in all parts of the state under Nevada's criminal laws. Certain rural counties may decide whether to allow brothel prostitution under the business licensing provisions of the county.

Karl if you ever visit Las Vegas, which i did under the cover of early monday morning darkness, streets were empty except for the few prostitutes working the stip.
The prostitues work the strip at leisure , 24/7.
Nevada has no concern about prostitution.
Neither for drug selling for that matter.

why NY should be so concerned about these *evil sex rings* ..well shows how people like Hillary Clinton can be so popular in that state.

like any business, prostitution needs regulation and control measures.

Paul, how did it take you all these long years to learn that there is a whole state of Nevada outside of Las Vegas?

What I qupte above is from a state government source.  Your assertion, Nevada has no concern about prostitution, is hogwash.

karlhenning

And yet, do you lack even the slight wit and humility to own that you have spewed forth hogwash?

what is there in Nevada that lies outside Las Vegas ???

I'm serious, i passed on the west side of the state and am not aware what lies within the state.
Nevada to my mind is like a   *no man's land* of sorts.
Prostitutes walk about freely within LV.
why should Yonkers get all up in a  religious right mode over Spitzer. ::)
beats me.

You've never looked at a map of the United States, either, have you?

Paul, no one faults you for ignorance.  It's when you parade your ignorance and invite people to regard it as some sort of wisdom, that you bark your shins.

It taught me a new word; roiled. Well, does the event mean a resignation; or do such politicians brazen it out in the US?

Since you asked, Mike: Pressure Mounts for Spitzer's Resignation

Once - decades ago, in a galaxy far, far away - I was with medical students performing "rounds" with a crusty octogenarian physician named Dr. Bloch.

Dr. Bloch had suffered the ministrations of mid-20th century medicine, among them major operations during which his fellow doctors had cut off his booze and cigars.

He was grousing about these and other things,  bemoaning that the only cures for his ailments had been to exorcise his apparently few pleasures.  "Yes, meat's bad for you, smoking's bad for you, drinking's bad for you..." and the word "bad" was sarcastically dripping with venom for the quacks who had imposed this regimen on him.  But then he added ominously: "And of course you all know what SEX does to you!"

This was the moronic era known as Free Love, which actually meant irresponsible self-gratification under the guise of revolutionary activity.  Sex was unchained from Angst, (but if you wanted chained sex, you would need Angst and maybe Angie: a minority desire, as always) and that was a good thing, as Martha would say.  Or at least the kulcher said so.

The students were shocked and began sweating: did Dr. Bloch really just imply that there might be something "bad" about s-e-x?  Is that possible?  Aren't we being told if it feels good, it can't be bad?  No, there can't be anything wrong about s-e-x!  But of course the problem was: Dr. Bloch knows everything!!!

So being something of an outsider, I asked: "So, what's it do to you?"

Dr. Bloch cleared his throat as if he had just been strangled, chuckled eerily like Bela Lugosi about to flay Boris Karloff alive, widened his eyes with terror and regret at having to proclaim the obvious to such dullards, saying: "Young man, Sex...makes you...an...IDIOT!!!"

Spitzer would have to agree.

I always thought the point of 'smashing a prostitution ring' was about other crime connected to the business, money-laundering, extortion, drugs, people trafficking and corruption....rather than about who pays for sex.

The operation does not take place in a vacuum, it is part of a web of criminality, that is the point of attacking it; so I understand.

Is the prostitution business in Amsterdam in state such as you lay out here.
i agree prostitution in many places *tends to attract* other types of shady dealings.

btw i just saw a  panel of reporters give their views on the matter. One reporter mentions some events of Stitzer's past as a  DA.
He went after CEO's so vigorously, that he threatened the corparation as well.
This man was a  tyrant against *evil CEO's*.
Seems the old saying that went around New Orleans just before Katrina hit, rings for Spitzer.
*what goes around comes  around*

In fairness to Spitzer, he hasn't admitted to any wrongdoing other than the vague assertion that he's done "something" that implicates his "family's trust."  As of yesterday, he hasn't even been charged with a crime ........
