Quote from: AnotherSpin on November 04, 2024, 08:49:12 AMA perfect illustration of the modern state of mind. What could have been said quietly and clearly is presented with anguish and an obvious overstep of good taste. Lots of bare skin, including the not-so-young Demi Moore. The final scenes turn everything into a bad circus. There may be meaning in it, but it eluded me.

In Cluj, Romania, Cinema Victoria, October 18, Friday Night: The Apprentice - not bad, but not very good either:

... music is not only an 'entertainment', nor a mere luxury, but a necessity of the spiritual if not of the physical life, an opening of those magic casements through which we can catch a glimpse of that country where ultimate reality will be found.    RVW, 1948

No, I have no plans to watch. In the first place, as a native New Yorker, I shan't learn anything about the subject that I don't already know. And in the second, unlike a million other people on the planet, the subject's life does not make an especially rewarding biopic.

TD: re-watched Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. "Next time, I seduce the rich guy."

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (2013)
Logan Lerman, Stanley Tucci, Nathan Fillion

The allusions to Harry Potter are even stronger in this sequel.

Plus you get lines like:
QuoteIt wasn't easy to find. I had to crawl through the depths of Tartarus myself. And then Cleveland.
Woof!

Unsurprisingly, there was no follow up movie, although I hear there was a streaming show recently.

Last night, Melville's Le Samouraï (1967) on the big screen — my first time seeing it, and an ideal distraction. Though I haven't seen that many films with Alain Delon (who died in August), this strikes me as one of the most "Delon-ish" around. Very little dialogue — Delon might have lines for a total of ten minutes, out of the 105-minute runing time — and the visual style is striking.
