Best composing while procrastinating???
« on: March 23, 2008, 06:32:04 PM »
For some reason i tend to do my best composing while i am procrastinating. As i am sitting here i have just finally finished up my piano rhapsody in cm that i have left unfinished for almost a year, and i am procrastinating from doing some work. Does this happen to anyone else?

No, I suppose not. I don't think I can compose if I am supposed to be doing something else - it's reserved for those few times when I can have no guilt about giving it some dedicated attention!

I either don´t think it works for me, but in a way I understand what you mean. If I get stuck in a composition, often I suddently think much clearer the few seconds after I stop carring about it. I think problems is something one should always figure out in the right order, taking everything as it is, an your problem will always become completely obvious. That´s why musicians are told to practice slow all the time.
The thing is, that human beings are cronically confused, so to relax and focus is the most difficult but also most fruitful thing to do. And when we are sitting for hours with a complex score and composing, we very easily get paralysed just by looking at the many notes.
