I came across this info for a Mahler 3rd Sym and it has me puzzled as I am not familiar with his 3rd. It is by Abbado and the VPO with the following artists:
Jessye Norman who I know and admire but the other two artists have me confused they are :

Adolf Holler who I know only as a Trumpeter
Gerhart Hetzel who was the leader of the VPO
Normally only Singers get their name in the honours list, are these two mentioned because the have major playing parts in the Sym??.

It is actually a widely known and well repected performance from the 1980s........
during this time Abbado was recording Mahler with VPO and CSO (Chicago) Later he did more Mahler with BPO for DG in the 1990-2000s

The posthorn player (third movement) is usually credited. It's an important and substantial solo. A trumpeter often plays the posthorn part, either on the specified instrument or, more simply, on a trumpet. There are violin solos in the symphony, but I've never seen a credit for the leader.

Diletante

Orgullosamente diletante.

Thanks for the feedback I had a look on Amazon and they show artists but not Holler

Yeah, I've got that recording, and in the booklet, after listing Norman, the choirs and orchestra, it says:

Violin-Solo:  Gerhart Hetzel
Posthorn-Solo (cor de postillon • cornetta da postiglione):  Adolf Holler

then Abbado's credit at the bottom.

Speaking of Mahler's 3rd symphony.....how great is that final movement Adagio!?!  :o :)

It is heavenly!  Ranks right up there for me, with the slow movements of Symphony No. 5 and 6.
