-born in Kongsberg, Norway to miner parents - brother of painter Otto Sinding - brother of sculptor Stephan Sinding - sister Thora Cathrine Sinding was married to jurist Glør Thorvald Mejdell - first cousin of journalist and writer Alfred Sinding-Larsen

-studied violin and music theory as a child in Oslo

-as his fellow countryman Grieg did, relocated to Leipzig, Germany in 1874 to study, remaining in Germany for 40 years

-the gov't of Norway was impressed with his music, granting him monetary awards that eventually developed into an annual pension after 1910, and in 1916 was awarded a huge sum of 30,000 crowns as the greatest Norwegian composer since Grieg

-married Augusta Gade in 1898

-early in his musical career he was strongly influenced by Romantics such as Schumann and Liszt, and somewhat by Wagner

-taught at the Eastman School in America 1920-21

-his music is tuneful and at times forcefully chromatic - at times bombastic

He and his wifd were reputedly and affectionately known as Christian and Isolde due to him being heavily Wagner influenced.....
