I'm enjoying non-classical music more than classical music these days. My taste develops much and also my ideas about what I regard as good music (with the help of what Miles Davis writes in his autobiography). The bands and music I listen to inspire me much and I develop my ideas about what's good music by listening to it. I like to share my preferences in this thread.

Much jazz for me sounds bad or I consider not good enough. Great jazz for me are:

Omar Sosa & Paolo Fresu - Alma

This is such beautiful music.

Keith Jarret's latest recordings, Rio and Jasmine. Very free improvising, great musicianship.

Rio sounds a bit flat to me however after repeated listening. Isn't completely improvised music always tend to be flat?

Ahmad Jamal.

Alain Alioune Agbo - Their love make me sing

Soulful music. I love it.

Great pop music:

Blackmore's Night. Rock-folk genre.

Kassav'. Their latest recording, All you need is Zouk, is great.

Through the Roots - Here to Stay

Reggae

Marcela Mangabeira - Simples

Brazillian music. Indeed, simple music, but it works.

Really good stuff, combining styles which lead to highly enjoyable music. Good playing.

Jim Black trio - Somatic

Kind of tough jazz (like his band Alasnoaxis), but anyway beautiful and exciting. Great styles of improvising coming together in this ensemble. Great compositions.

Brazilian music, new kind of style, very hip, fast music without getting too loud or irritating.

I listened some parts of string quartet no. 127 by Beethoven today.

Jazz and pop music makes me feel better these days. I need some positive vibes in the world we live today. I don't get that from classical music. However when I feel more comfortable I will spin classical music more again.

Contemporary classical music doesn't give me positive vibes, the vibes I need to feel positive, I think it did in earlier times. Is this a weakness of contemporary classical music? Or is this a function jazz and pop music have just taken over?

And Blackmore was a lot better before Candice.
I do get positive vibes from classical music.

I meant to say the compositions are old. This doesn't make the music less attractive or sounding "outdated" or something, therefor it's "classical", but I get positive vibes from things created in these times, though I don't get that from too modern stuff, which also have it merits on his own, as I wanted to emphasize.

I do read classical books however nowadays.

I love the two latest releases by Blackmore's Night. Great stuff, very good music, which influenced my taste and perception of popular music.
