What are some of the things you are doing that are better for our environment?  You can choose as may options as you like.

Recycling (paper, cans, plastic bottles, glass, etc.)
Composting
Buying less consumer products in general
Using alternative modes of transport more often (bike, walk, carpool, bus, hybrid vehicles)
Reusable bags for groceries
Phosphate free detergents
Using less harmful household cleaning products
Eating less meat
Switching to energy efficient light bulbs
Reducing water consumption (ie. energy efficient shower heads, not watering the grass)
Other green initiatives
I don't do any of these

Are enough people doing this to make a difference? I must admit, I don't worry about it much. You'd have to make it mandatory.

I know. I'm bad.  ;D

"less harmless household cleaning products" . . . ?

I do most of the things on the list above, and although I like to drive, I haven't owned a car in 25 years.

No, there's an important pragmatism there.

Does it matter, what precautions we try (and not unanimously, I should guess) to take in the West, if China keeps on burning the fossil fuels, for instance?  That's a behemoth which it will not be easy to re-direct, either.

Yes, that's claiming what is after all largely a personal convenience, as somehow a virtue . . . Bruce will allow me that mild tease . . . or of course, I may find myself surreptitiously banned  ;D ;D ;)

Hey, I know a lot of people who live in NYC who own cars.  (And large ones, too, alas.)  Seriously, the high availability of public transit here doesn't seem to stop those who really want to own (and maintain, and park) vehicles.   ;)

I knew your virtue is not cheap, Bruce;D

Do I remember (some while back) a minor brouhaha over the Mayor being driven to his subway stop in a fuel-guzzling SUV?

Yes, I believe that was in the news...shameful!  He should be riding a bicycle.  :D

Buying less consumer products in general. That is a brilliant one, putting even more people out of work in these dire times.

Perhaps they will find employment in another sector of society other than manufacturing and retail?   ???  I'm sure there are alot of unnecessary wars out there that need some recruitments.  ::)

Most of the list. Composting is fun as hell - friggin' everything goes in that thing; paper, grass, food - it consumes all!

Edit: Under water saving, we have several barrels in the garden to collect rain water, and we water the plants with those.
Peanut butter, flour and sugar do not make cookies. They make FIRE.

Shameful. Are the subway stops in New York that far apart?  $:)

The big trick is getting the Commies to go green.
