Having lived in the US for 22 years and all of the places we are planning to go are places I am very familiar with (no need for a map or GPS), I know it will be a pleasant trip in friendly places!

Tomorrow, Vanessa and I will be taking Kimi on a two week vacation to California. She will be seeing Disneyland, Sea World, Leggoland, Golden Gate Bridge, baseball, graffiti, gang of tattooed Harley riders and police chases for the first time. We will be in the famous Ritz Carlton in Laguna Niguel for our 10th wedding anniversary!

Kimi asked me to bring empty luggage to haul her shopping harvest. I did. Then Vanessa said she will buy a big one to haul her shopping harvest. Vanessa has two credit cards with $12K spending limit. Should I be nervous?

Well, perhaps a little nervous.

Safe travels, dear fellow!

Me, of course. Vanessa just asked me if I could make $30,000 during the remainder  of the year.

point out to Vanessa that if actually necessary, there are some stores which offer luggage for sale in California.

and bon voyage!

We will expect the Great and Powerful Kimi to put all those Disney princesses in their rightful place.

Very cool for Kimi! 8) Should be exciting but exhausting. :) Hope you enjoy your time there, Paul, and congratulations on the wedding anniversary!

Kimi had a fall on Saturday while playing and now her left arm is in a cast for an elbow injury. Initial examination showed no clear break but she will be re-examined on Monday. But she will be alright. She's a tough little cookie.

I am in Shanghai on business and won't see her for three more days. It was tough seeing her in pain and be in a cast like that. I look forward to going home early and hold her and comfort her.

Do what I must do, and let what must happen happen.

Artem

Hope there's nothing serious and a speedy recovery from the fall to your daughter, springrite.

Now 120cm tall, Kimi finally went to her first concert!!!

Israel Symphony (essentially the Tel Aviv Opera Orchestra)
Conductor: James Judd

Beethoven: Leonora Overture #3
Shemesh: Running to Return for Kantor and Shofar and Orchestra
Verdi: Overture to Nabucco
Brahms: Symphony #2
Strauss Jr: Die Fledermaus Overture

Kimi's review:
Beethoven: Great piece but played very badly! Maybe they did not even rehearse this one as they played without that Beethoven spirit and power. Every seemed timid and afraid to make a mistake and just played the notes!

Shemesh: The best thing on the program! The music is imaginative, the players all applied themselves fully, and the singing, even though unfamiliar to Kimi (in Hebrew and sang in a non-classical manner), was beautiful, and the odd sound of the Shofar was provocative and added so much colour and imagination.

Verdi: Exciting!

Brahms: Maybe they only rehearsed the second movement. That was played beautifully. The other three movements were like run-throughs.

Strauss Jr: Very enjoyable but still played too much like an exercise.

Overall: Good, but would be less than good without the second work!!!

There!

Nice to hear and well-outspoken reviews! Never heard of Shemesh. Is it (late-)romantic or not?

Living Israeli composer. It is apparently a fairly recent work.

With cantor and shofar, I like it already!  ;D (No, I'm not Jewish, but I have studied Hebrew and attended Messianic worship services.)

The title is a reference to Ezekiel 1:14, describing the movement of the angels associated with the "Chariot".

Cool, Paul! I always liked the usage of shofar in Elgar's The Apostles. 8)
