Kimi has been home for a little over a week. She has been such a joy! She smiles in her sleep, and has the loudest cry you will ever hear from someone so small. She seems to understand a few words, as everytime we mention "medicine", "hospital", "injection", she starts to cry.

Two days ago she had one of those days when she cried loudly every few minutes for half a day. We knew something was not right, but did not know what. Finally we went to the hospital. It seems she has gained quite an appitite and was eating more and more. But her digestive system was not ready for such an overload. So we were ordered to feed her less per meal. Now she cired because she's hungry. When she wakes at night, all you need to do is to hold her hands or feet to make her feel safe. Then she goes back to sleep.

She now weigh in at 2.28kg.

Pu, I don't know what you are feeding Kimi, but if it is true that she is already understanding words and able to devise strategies to avoid  her medication, then you have quite a little genius there!  You had better watch out because by the time she is 3 years old she will look up from her math homework and say, "Daddy you just don't understand," and it will probably be true!

At 2.28 kg, Kimi knows just what she is doing when she tries to eat as much as possible:  She's trying to grow strong and healthy for her parents.

Pu, there were also many times when my daughters would go through periods where they had increased appetite and cried a lot.  I thought they were sick, but they were having a growth spurt (period of rapid growth).  If Vanessa is breastfeeding, don't try to limit the milk as it will interfere in the milk supply.  Just let Kimi nurse on demand and she will not ask for more until her stomach is empty.  If you are supplementing her diet with formula or cereals, then try to increase the nursing if at all possible.  Breast milk is the most digestible food for a baby, and it's also the healthiest.  100,000 years of evolution really can't be wrong. ;)

Thanks!

She's eating well. Now she takes in about 600ml a day, or a little more.

Kimi is a timid little girl. She gets scared everytime she burps or farts, and starts to cry.

She also has a short fuse. She looks like me but has her temperment from her mom!

Well, I imagine your wife will be ecstatic that you managed to disclose so many of her habits in such a very short post.  0:)

His wife will be ecstatic that he only disclosed Kimi's habits and not hers.  >:D

I am not so sure about that; seemingly Kimi takes after her mother.

Ah yes!  a hit, a palpable hit!  Good luck to Paul if Vanessa ever reads this. ;)

I am too lazy to try to figure out how to reduce the size of photos so I will just give a tet update. She is more than 2 1/2 months old now, and will soon reach 100 days which in China is cause for a huge celebration. So many people have offered to plan and host it. But we will keep it simple and private.

I speak English to her exclusively. She really likes my voice and always listens attentively. I am also learning some more Spanish and English so I can teach her those as a second language years later. (Chinese and English will be co-native language for her).

I also composed two short songs for her, one of which is very effective in putting her to sleep (better than the horror of "when the wind blows the craddle will fall" of the English/American tradition!).

Today, on a regular scheduled pre-nadal visit, some things were not normal. Vanessa's BP was 150-110, and the baby was lacking oxygen. So, a decision was made to do C-sec immediately.

Our baby Kimi was born at 12.50pm, 7 weeks premature. She weighs in at only 1.3kilos, but was otherwise OK for her age. She will be in ICU for the next 4 weeks or so.

It is a miracle for Vanessa and I to become parents to begin with. It is also a miracle that we moved our scheduled doctor's visit up one day, or the baby may be gone. Thank God for this!

I am happy and worried at the same time. We need your prayers for baby Kimi's recovery and growth. Hope she will do OK for the next few weeks, so we can finally take her home come June.

Thank you all!

A belated congratulations to you both. I'm absolutely over the moon that you're now parents, and I can only speak from my own experiences over the past ten months when I say that parenthood isn't just life changing, it's life enhancing. You will, of course, have found this out for yourselves by now. :)

And if that doesn't work, you can always try playing Bax's symphonies!
