Vanessa's name is a bit more complicated: 藏锡芳

Does one write that first ideogram in 19 strokes, Paul?

Kimi has recovered enough to be released from the hospital and come home today! Unfortunately, Vanessa has a cold and she is not allowed to come close to her. She is staying in my music/tea studio across the street. This shouldn't take longer than three days. But having not been allowed to see Kimi for a week already, she is not happy and calls Kimi every hour or so. Kimi is so happy to be back home. I am going to the kitchen now to cook for her!

A bit of bad news as my sister Sherry has a brain tumor and needs an operation. I will line up the best surgeon in the country for her. She should be fine.

I am happy little Kimi is in the clear, I worried quite a bit about her. But I am sad at the same time hearing from your sister. Every piece of happiness seems by necessity partnered to something bad.

Me too and my very best wishes for your sister's operation.

You can do that?

In my line of work, I get to know some of the best medical people in the country. If I do not know the right person directly, chances are someone I know can get me connected. It helps to know the right people.

If I may butt in on the baby topic, our two-year old (plus 4 mos) was using a Bert & Ernie sketch on You Tube as a focusing aide when she was drinking her milk around last Xmas; then there was these Spanish kids' songs (Canta Juego) she really liked while drinking milk. And now, suddenly, she's watching segments from a Sleeping Beauty dvd, preferably the Paris Opera Ballet version. First we go to the Rose Adagio ('the girl with the flowers') and then to the Bluebird pas de deux ('the girl and the boy'). Encouraging squeals and yelps are par for the course. Additionally she points out every time 'the girl' gives 'the flowers' to 'her mama'  -  the latter said with great satisfaction.

As we're watching these pieces three or four times a day now, there's a serious risk of burnout on my part (and changing to another Sleeping Beauty video is not appreciated), but just now I'm happy to see her delight.

So she's lost 15% of her body weight, but our Kimi has recovered and is as energetic and as cute as ever!

She's also talking a lot, and very good at picking up things that we say and use it appropriately. Earlier tonight, as I told her not to be picky about her food (Now, be a good girl and eat what I give you) she said:"You kidding!"

Any resemblance to her daddy?

Kimi needed a one inch portrait photo for her new medicare card. But the doctor recommend that she does not go to public places for another week or two at least. That means we can't take her to a photo studio. So Vanessa took these photos at home, with a white bed sheet hanging over the sofa as background. It is amazingly good, almost professional level stuff!

You both look like Bobby Darin.

I took care of Kimi for a day today as the nanny went for a minor surgery, for which she needs 3 days or so to recover. This is nothing compared to my sister Sherry's brain surgery last week, which lasted 13 hours. The tumor is big (5cm) and wrapped half way around the brain stem. Most surgeon won't dare to operate on this type of tumor, as the chances of success is very low, and if successful, the chances of loss of major functions such as vision, swallowing, speech, etc. is always certain. But we had the best brain surgeon on the planet who is also a friend of my schoolmate (a fellow brain specialist). They did excellent work and Sherry is now out of danger and recovering well. There is some partial paralysis of one side of the face but with rehab she is likely to recover most of that as well. Sherry has been in excellent spirit throughout, even helping encourage other patients. She is very popular in the hospital. I am so proud of her!

Just before the surgery, Kimi said: "Auntie get well. Play with Kimi soon."
