This will obviously be updated as the year goes on, but here is a place to list some of your best discoveries (or rediscoveries) of 2008.

Some of mine, so far:

Vaughn Williams - string quartets and the Phantasy Quintet!  :o

Haydn - String Quartets

Russian and other Eastern European chamber music, specifically Tchaikovsky, Taneyev and Glazunov, Janacek and Smetana.

Mahler - Symphony No. 6 (long time in my collection, but discovered how fantastic it is last week).

Brahms - Transcriptions for Four Hands Piano Duet or Two Pianos

Bruckner's 8th Symphony

The Janáček operas

Feldman and Wolpe choral music

Mennin symphonies

The Pacifica Quartet's Carter disc

Salieri's amazing overtures.

Franz Schmidtt's orchestral music.

The most extreme YET successful Baroque ensemble i know, the Il Giardino Armonico.

That Charpentier's 'Impressions d'Italie' is as good and, still, as enjoyable as I remember from all those years ago!

The music of Kapustin and Alkan are my greatest discoveries so far this year.  I am especially have a great time with Kapustin and only wish there were more of it on disc.

A piano compilation for your consideration-Shostakovich/Alkan: 24 & 25 Preludes by Olli Mustonen. OOP Decca issue, Gramophone reissue.
