Whenever a long-standing member departs, the "sky is falling" attitude seems to come to center stage.  I don't think there's anything to be concerned - people come, people go.  It's the nature of discussion boards.

I'm neither particularly friendly towards you nor particularly hostile. You're just another person here stating opinions, most of which I ignore. You're not important enough to me for me to feel "antipathy." All I'm suggesting is that maybe you're not the saint you take yourself to be. And if what Ezodisy says is true, then maybe it's time for you to look at yourself rather than to make accusations against others.

I am not aware that I am making accusations, I merely stated my sadness that people are leaving, that's all.
And another thing, if you write to me in the way you do, I would define that as particularly hostile, what ever fine turn to have construed here.
Every human being is important, that is a elementary fault  of your reasoning.
And I never said, nowhere that I considered myself a saint, so please do no suggest fault hoods.
And are you accusing me of the fact that others have left the board because of me?
I am not that important as you said that people do that.

You've also stated how pleased you are that members you dislike have left.

And how do you explain this? pure fantasy? no grounding in truth?

QuoteHow ironic. So many people--the most intelligent--have stopped posting here because of you. If only you would leave they might come back. Not that I'm expecting you to, of course. One would need a modicum of shame for that.

Stop being so quick to take offense, and look at yourself. And you are starting to piss me off, with your sacrimonious whining. So there.  ;D

That the most intelligent have left because of Harry? Look around at the posters still here. Obviously Sidozey is not speaking the truth. I mean, come on, you and I are still here  ;D

Not more as you would have done if I left.

Don, though I agree with what you said, I think it would be hard to deny that the quality of discussions has dropped significantly in the past 1 to 2 years. In fact discussions is the wrong word -- we used to have them, now we just have people posting about what they're listening to and what they're buying ::)

It is true, though pointless to rattle off a list of people who have left, and hopeless to expect Harry to reconsider anything. The thing is Harry is actually a very amiable person and I'm happy to see him post here. The problem is the passive-aggressive streak which comes out whenever someone disagrees -- a perfect example is his response to you above. If he could cut that and stop being so hostile (yes Harry, that's what it is), then this problem would largely disappear (after all, it's easy enough to avoid someone's posts, even when they're full of images).

Ezodisy is sidoze?! How did I not see it? :o A (belated) welcome back to you.

Well, in case some of the people I care about (who as it happens are to be found on BOTH sides of this divide!) decide to leave, do PM me your e-mail address so we can keep in touch!

So many times I heard this phrase "Passive Aggressive" and so little it has anything to do with me.
I simply dislike all kind of violence, mentally and physically , and I am a peace loving human being, was that all my life.
So in no way would this definition fit on me, and therefore you must understand, I cannot embrace it.
Living in this world for 51 years, never ever came such accusations my way, far from it.
If someone disagrees with me, than that is fine, why should I react in such a way as you say?
No, I am not hostile, and never was that, maybe you are holding a mirror in front of yourself.
My postings are images and reviews, and I write considerably more text as posting images.
And what is that to you, if I do, am I complaining about you?

Well, I've been here since the days of the purple and orange color scheme (not many others can say that!), and I've seen literally thousands of posters come and go. I've seen some come back and leave again a dozen times at least. I've seen them post under one name for years, quit, then come back and establish a whole new persona under a different name (The Gurnatron 5500TM knows all). This is what these boards are, all of them, not just this one. We are not family, many of us are friends, some of us are enemies. A virtual simulation of real life.

And just like in real life, there have to be some constraints that we impose on ourselves in order to get along. Those who lack the capacity for self-restraint, and the ability to see themselves as others see them are destined to be major disruptive forces before they inevitably fade into the sunset.

So, let's give this topic a rest so I don't have to lock it. Go talk about music. And do 2 things before posting back in this thread: think before typing and reread before hitting the "Post" button.

See? More proof that the level of discussion has not deteriorated in the last year or so.  ;D

Very succinctly put, Gurn.
The days of the purple & orange colour scheme, indeed! Good times.  ;D

Is there a chance of the old database ever being restored I wonder...  :-\

Actually it's impossible to get rid of all the --talkers. More than 80% of the internet community is made up of them.

Your statistic is probably made up, but your point is taken. It is the duty of the more intelligent and mature people, the 20% if you will, to attempt to keep things civilized. Else we might as well just take our ball and go home, so to speak. I count on you to lead the way... :)
