Bach's arrangement (for organ) of a concerto (or some sort of piece) for orchestra by Vivaldi. I went to an organ recital a couple weeks ago and heard this, but I forgot to take my program home. I looked for the piece in my Helmut Walcha set on Archiv--which I thought was complete--but couldn't find it. I'm sure that knowing the BWV number wouldhelp. Thanks.

From Wikipedia:

Keyboard arrangements of concerti by other composers (972–987)

BWV 972 — Concerto in D major (arrangement of Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto Op. 3/9 RV230)
BWV 973 — Concerto in G major (arrangement of Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto Op. 7/2 RV188)
BWV 975 — Concerto in G minor (arrangement of Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto Op. 4/6 RV316a)
BWV 976 — Concerto in C major (arrangement of Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto Op. 3/12 RV265)
BWV 978 — Concerto in F major (arrangement of Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto Op. 3/3 RV310)
BWV 980 — Concerto in G major (arrangement of Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto Op. 4/1 RV383a)

Solo was implied, but there are also these three:

Concerti for organ (592–598)

BWV 593 — Concerto in A minor (after Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto Op. 3/8 RV522 for violin)
BWV 594 — Concerto in C major (after Antonio Vivaldi, Concerto Op. 7/5 RV285a 'il grosso mogul' for violin)
BWV 596 — Concerto in D minor (after Antonio Vivaldi, Concerto grosso, Op. 3/11 RV565)

Thanks!

Now, how familiar are you with Michael Nyman's organ music?  ;D I had never heard any of it until this recital. It was pretty interesting, but I think the elderly, conservative Anglican congregation comprising the audience was left scratching their heads.

Unfortunately both "integrals" of Walcha are incomplete in the strictest sense.  The organ transcriptions after Vivaldi were recorded for Archive by Hans Heintze (in mono) and later by Karl Richter (in stereo).
Reality trumps our fantasy far beyond imagination.

(poco) Sforzando

This might help you:

But it doesn't give any musical examples. I have all these scores at home; if you can read music and can tell me which of the concertos from this list you are sure it is not, I can help you pinpoint which one it is.
"I don't know what sforzando means, though it clearly means something."

Usually if you call the venue of the concert, they can give you all of the program details.  That might be easier than hunting through all of Bach's arrangements of Vivaldi.  If the hall has a website, the information should also be available there.

Thanks. But I've searched through my Walcha set (listing by BWV number), and they are not included, as someone mentioned. Now if only I could find an Anton Heiller recording in decent sound.
