Now you have to type in which letters have little pictures of cats next to them, rather than merely the letters. Of course, the cats are as blurry as the letters, and danged if I can tell if they're cats or not! I was just rejected for security purposes.  >:(

I used to have hell telling what the letters were...  :-\

I hate the new system, not because of the cats/letters, but because somehow I can no longer manipulate my IP to download up to 8 files at a time on a free account. Every time I try they tell me the access code is wrong  ::)  Only respite comes from the Rapidshare Happy Hours, then it's back to business  8)

Mediafire is where it's at.  8)

I know. I love Mediafire, but see, I found out yesterday by mistake that I seem to be a member of OperaShare, somehow. And they use Rapidshare for everything. :(

Which reminds me - somebody must have invited me to join, but I have no clue who. If it's someone on this forum, please know that I thank you very much.  ;D

I've always sort of looked longingly at OperaShare - much the way a small child looks at a pony - but I cannot bring myself to pay for a Rapidshare premium account. Since I don't have two days to spend downloading an opera, I never consider the matter seriously. I prefer to rely on the kindness of strangers here.

Rapidshare - though useful - is not my friend.

Yes I hate the cats, but surprisingly I haven't gotten it wrong once yet, I used to spend 20 mins typing in the wrong code..

How do you become a member of opera share?

I use(d) both MediaFire and Rapidshare (Premium account). It happened a few times on MediaFire that I had all but finished my upload, when something went wrong with the connection, so I had to start all over again. This irritated me so much that I prefer Rapidshare at the moment (no problem at all, so far).

Yeah that happened to me once or twice, but mediafire is free for uploaders and downloaders. Plus the stuff you upload can stay up indefinitely, without renewing anything.

True. But - I always turn my Rapidshare uploads into 'Direct Downloads', so that people can get to them without any restrictions.

Can an unlimited amount of Direct Downloads be downloaded without paying for a subscription?

OK. I just have run into problems where they make me wait about 2 hours between downloads.  ::)

Somebody who regularly uploads stuff to OperaShare has to recommend you to the group's owners, and then they allow you in. Apparently the process can be done anonymously, because I don't know anyone to whom I've given my Yahoo! ID.   ???

greg

why do they use the cats now?
have they invented computer programs that can guess the regular captchas?  ???
but computers aren't supposed to be able to know that stuff!

Yes, they have. I read something to that effect a few weeks ago. Captchas have been cracked.

I pay them sometimes. Then you can btw. define a primary download server and you'll have direct downloads then.

pretty sad......

but at the same time, it's pretty amazing that computers are able to do more things that only humans can do.... (at least with good programs)

Why don't they make you play Pac-Man or Minesweeper or something?  ;D

Now it's worse!

QuoteSecurity Question

Please enter the following code when downloading. Only enter symbols attached to a cat.
This is for security reasons. Premium users can jump this step.

Every symbol is attached to a cat (or to something, which I cannot distinguish from their cat) and I'm unable to enter more than 4 characters in the box next to them. This is SO dumb!
