There is this Synagogue that I attend from time to time but its not the main synagogue that I usually go to.  The Rabbi of this Synagogue is Rabbi Israel Meir Kirzner . I remember the first time I saw this man, he was very humble and over all looked very simple. I was interested to know more about him, so I made an internet search. Little did I know that this modest Rabbi in Brooklyn is one of the leading economists of the United States. He is a Professor of economics and holds three different degrees and authored a number of books on Economics. I was very surprised , I would have never guessed that this simple looking Rabbi would have been such a major figure in the world of economics.

Very interesting incident.

Here is a page in Wikipedia about him:

There are (and have been) quite a lot of people in positions of religious authority that are very well educated indeed. I distinctly remember hearing, once, about how a prominent Orthodox (Christian) clergyman had a degree in astrophysics! ;D

(The smiley denoting an amount of irony inherent to that concept, but I won't deny I was pleasantly surprised.)

i once knew a hooker who had a masters degree in economics

M forever

Goebbels also held a PhD - and he had trained as a priest at some point.

Apparently the rabbi in question doesn't just "hold a degree", which wouldn't be that unusual, but is a prominent scientist. Which isn't all that unusual either. ;D I guess Saul's point was that the man's modesty was surprising - which, come to think of it, may be interesting but still isn't all that unusual... ;D

I was just going to create an interesting incident thread myself.

Holy crap!  yesterday I had a rehearsal with my band, and I decided to bring a trumpet, to play in one song.  I put in on the piano's lid.  we start playing and then everybody says "oh my god!  the trumpet!"  i LOOK BEHIND and the trumpet is on the floor!  apparently it started sliding bc of the vibrations, etc.

BUT i spent like 20 minutes and there is not a scratch anywhere.  i had a soft guitar case on the piano bench, so it fell on it first, and then rolled down and landed on a mouthpiece somehow.  the floor had carpeting.  So the mouthpiece was jammed, but i was able to get it out.  this is unbelievable i first thought that the whole trumpet would be uplayable and pretty much destroyed.
